Default aircon recharge help

I've just had my aircon recharged and would appreciate any comments from members that have had this done to their cars , my aircon was cool but not cold , so I took advantage of a regas offer at a local garage , now the aircon is ice cold, but what worries me is the compressor kicks in every 20 seconds for 5seconds , is this normal ?
Thanks in advance Dave

Hi, and yes. It kicks in and out with a clutch on the compressor. If it ran all the time I guess it would all freeze up.

Mine used to make so much noise when operating it turned heads when it kicked in, the same way yours is operating but hopefully yours quieter!

Just had it replaced and you can just hear it click in at similar intervals.

Hope this helps.

The short answer is that it depends on how you use the climate control system.

The longer answer is that operation frequency is all dependant on selected cabin temperature, actual cabin temperature and evaporator temperature.
Selecting a normal room temperature of around 19/20°C and having all the windows shut will mean a fairly infrequent compressor engagement once the selected temperature is reached.

If you have windows open and/or a very low temperature selected, compressor operation will be much more frequent especially at this time of year.

Can you say again how does it kick in/out? Does the clutch spin for 20 sec then stops for 5 sec then spins again? This would be normal to me

No, the other way round , on for five off for 20, 2 complete cycles a minute , plus the compressor is noticeably louder , I'm concerned they've over filled the system
Thanks Dave

If you have access to Vida, you can view the actual gas pressure and compare to what it should be.

Not got Vida , just a code reader , the more I google the problem the more I suspect they've over filled the system and it's tripping out on high pressie , would this throw up a DTC ?
Thanks Dave

Unlikely and even if it did, it would most likely be in the CEM or CCM so would need reading with high end diagnostics.
Normal readers will only do ECM and TCM and sometimes BCM and SRS.
