Default The radiogram...

I pulled the radiogram out of the barge this afternoon:

... it is huge, and weights a lot. It is only a 2 channel player, so the rear speakers were just spliced into the fronts with that splitter device I mentioned a while ago. It was a bit of a bodge really (but I think the way Mr Volvo meant it.

The new radio (tiny in comparison) is working (electrically), I just have to wire up the rear speakers properly. The problem will be fitting it securely into about a DIN and a half cavity - but that is tomorrow's problem.

:-)

You were at one time able to buy an adpator plate that replaced the surround of the original radio with one that had a DIN slot cut in it. While searching for that product (they used to be all over ebay!) i discovered this :

https://www.volvoforums.org.uk/archi.../t-318293.html

Useful or not i don't know but may give you some insight. If i do happen to find a fascia DIN adaptor plate, i'll post a link for you.

Many thanks Dave,

That is as I understand the situation to be: at one time one could purchase a DIN and a half (Volvo) to DIN (most of the rest of the world) adaptor plate (probably from a Volvo dealer), but they became extinct decades ago.

The DIN sleeve into which the new radio fits is just a little smaller than the Volvo slot; I'm planning to mount it at the top of the aperture (with a few bits of Meccano or similar), which will leave me a half-DIN(ish) gap at the bottom. I have bought a single DIN adaptor plate - which I'll probably cut in half to fill the gap:

Incartec.co.uk have loads of DIN panel adapters.

Might have something useful.

Andrew.🤔

Before you go mutilating that handy little pocket/cubby, have a look at this Alan :

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/264990665093

It performs the same function but is for a 940, the seller may still have access to 240 fascia adaptor plates but hasn't listed them as they're no longer a mainstream car. Could be worth an ebay message...........

This is the part made by Volvo for fitting smaller radios into the lower dash mount position - part number 1384579. The four marked holes line up with the screw mounts on single-din Volvo radios (CR802 / CR906 etc). They pop up on Tradera from time to time.

Lucien
