Default V70 Drivers Door Lock- Kaput

Hi all, just read the thread below re T5 central locking, my 02 V70 D5 has developed a fault with the drivers door (only) - not locking. Started happening intermittently, now it's nearly every time- still works v.occasionally. Assume it's a faulty lock unit, but looking at the Haynes manual it seems a right pig of a job to get to it- has anyone any experience of these things?? The Haynes refers to "deadlock" and non-deadlock cars, how can I tell which I've got?? Also, are new lock units expensive?

Any help appreciated, not a major fault but a B nuisance!

Cheers

PJC

Sorry they are expensive £100 + and a pig to change if you've not done one before.

Paul.

Yes you have deadlocks , but NOT 2 stage locking ( you will get asked this when you buy the new lock ) don't forget the rivet for the window slide channel which you have to drill out ...

I might be able to help here. I bought a central locking drivers side unit from CP motors for my 2001 ex police volvo fully tested and working. When I changed it it turned out not to be the problem. I paid £58.75 for it (50.00 plus vat and could let you have it for the same price plus postage if you are interested. I'm in hinckley Leics. if you wanted to pick up and have no idea on postage. pm or phone me on 07774 697724. Cheers Mike.

Default door lock

Can anybody tell me whether these locks can be tested prior to removal as I have a similar problem to that above however mine does deadlock after approx 20secs but will not unlock with the remote. I got hold of a second hand lock and fitted it only to find exactly the same problem. I have either been very unlucky and got hold of another lock with the same problem or there is another fault somewhere.
Cheers Chris

Thanks for offer Mike. Funny thing is, since I started the thread going the lock has behaved itself perfectly so I'm now beginning to wonder whether in fact as suggested above the problem lies with something else rather than the lock itself.

So many electrical things to go wrong on these cars.

I certainly don't want to strip the door unnecessarily, esp as it seems to be a pig, so I'll leave it for the moment and see what happens. If it goes down for good then it will be easier to find the fault, but these intermittent faults are a b****r.

Once again thanks for the offer and if I need a new unit in the end I'll be in touch to see if you still have it.

Cheers

I have a similar problem with my drivers door lock. Every now and again it pops up after the lock button is pressed.

If you open the door and close it very firmly it will then work. This suggests a loose / dirty sensor or switch maybe.

There must be a some sort of a mechanism inside the door that tells the car if the door is shut or not.

That does sound very similar to mine. Might be worth me just taking off the door liner and having a look next time it happens, maybe spray a little WD here and there. May not help but you never know!

Cheers

Hello
I had the passenger door lock button pop up after the car was locked, it would dead lock after a while. It seems to have been fixed by unlocking the car with the remote, but not opening any doors, the car then re-locks itself and the button goes down and it has worked ever since. Try this it may work.
Good luck
