My journey now is about 3 miles town and 6 miles dual carriageway, and sometimes another 6 miles country lanes (depending on car sharing).
I have owned the car for nearly 3 years, and love it. Mine has an uprated exhaust and has been mapped, sounds great and shifts well when I want it to. The car has been pretty good, though this year the roof did break (doesnt go down). I have had diagnostics, but yet to actually fix it (its a short in the wiring). The roof is the biggest concern for me, as price bombs if they dont work, and in all honesty, I have been thinking about swapping it for a MX5 and a normal family car (like a rav4 or something). I did shop around for my Volvo, and ended driving about 300 miles to get it, but got it at a great price, with great history. I believe the 2.4 is a solid engine, but I would deffo recommend the T5 over it. Quote:

To be honest, if you aren't a speed demon the 2.4i is a fine means of propulsion.
A chap at my old workplace had one and it sounded very distinctive. |

I drove a 2.4i today and I can understand people saying it feels a bit under power but it fine for any use. I actually bought that car and pick it up next weekend. I just need to order a new key. but a 2008 with 60K on the clock and full Volvo history. |

My V70R AWD needs new keys and a new UEM (the lectronics behind the mirror) That will be a quick £1,200 pounds sir, - Cash or Credit Card !!! I have one one clever key with my C70 and one (just a dumb) key blade I have not yet invested any time in finding out the cost of replacing the clever key/remote BUT my V70 key blade (a clever one) is just under £80.00 PLUS £100.00 to program it to the locks. Welcome to the world of Volvo High Security keys locks and alarms

I did call Volvo and asked and they said £250 and will take an hour for a new key. I will just bite the bullet on this one and get it done.

The 2.4i is not pitiful, but it is rather gutless and you have to work it to make even brisk progress in the C70. It's rated at identical economy and it wouldn't surprise me if in real life it did slightly worse, unless you like driving everywhere like a snail, as you'd be caning it.
The engine badged "T5" in these cars cannot be compared to the 250/260BHP T5 in the larger cars, they have a high pressure turbo that only really comes on song over 3000RPM and these are a low pressure turbo that boosts early for low end torque. This makes them about a lovely torquey low end and mid range rather than top end sizzle - perfect for making respectable sensible progress in an 1800KG car like the C70. In fact the LPT turbo V70/S60 was often a better choice than the T5 because the torque output was higher at lower engine speed. Don't waste your time with the 2.4i, other than the lower initial purchase price they were pointless new and are pointless now.
