Default Air filter upgrade

Ive just been reading from the OPIE oils web site and wonder whether there is any benefit to upgrading the air filter to a decent quality washable and reusable filter?( K&N)

Any tried this route, and if so are there any benefits??

Hi,

I have a PiperCross sponge filter. in one car and a cone filter in the other.

They do five a better flow of air through the engine, but some people say that they do encourage the flow through of very small particulate matter.
Matter that can be abrasive to engine components such as the inlet and exhaust manifolds and valves.

Volvo manifolds are, I have heard, pretty restrictive and would benefit from porting. Expensive job but may be worth it for those in search of more ommph from the engines..

Des. . .

there are cheaper methods of giving your car a bhp increase and I wouldn't bother with a replacement panel filter until you really need it. An NA car wouldn't benefit that much at all and a turbo car needs more work until your panel filter becomes a restriction.
