I so much love this forum

where a simple advert rolls over into personal feuds.

Perhaps a question to the moderators : cant we have a button so that
feuding partys can have their private individualised nuclear
wars ???

hello iam new to this forum and if i had known it was going to be a tad differcult for folk to kindley give advice without any-one being a wee bit annoyed well i would done it anyway i wish to say to allparties concerned a big thankyou for your help now maybe you can point me in the direction of obtaining the alloys a would like to purchase ---as follows hello after much advice i would like to know if any one has the following alloy wheels to sell-------------I think if you fit the contemporary 6x15 OEM wheel - those that were available as an option on the GL and often standard on the GLE(the wheels with slots around the circumference and the dinner plate sized stainless hubcap), you'll find there are no"fitment"issues

These are fitted to my 740GLE as standard and are the type with the so called dinner plate centres. They are 15 inch. Also one of the pictures shows them fitted to my 240SE estate.

The "general" rule of thumb is that front wheel drive wheels will fit rear wheel drive volvo's.Yes some of the newer types have to have spacers fitted as the offset is very different.

The rather nice 240 GLT virgo wheels will only fit some 740's as the virgos are 14inch(incorrect they are 15") and clash with the front callipers. Some early 740's fitted with the smaller disc and caliper are ok but the later bigger disc and caliper are a no no with the virgo's.
The fourth picture of my 240 shows 14 inch(incorrect they are 15") virgos fitted on the front and 16 inch hydras as normally fitted to the 940's.

I mix and match and the 16 inch hydras have 205 or 225 profile and are exactly the same overall size as the rigels as in picture two which are 15 inch.

Yes even I'm confused now but I'm sure if Brodgar or Prufrock would like to say otherwise then that would be fine as I value there expertise and knowledge.

Regards Brian.

Hi Brodgar I seem to remember the virgo's wouldn't fit on my 940 but it was because it had the bigger disk fitted Lol.
So you are correct they are indeed 15".
Thankyou for correcting my incorrect advice.
Regards Brian.
Am I right with the other bits though?????more or less.
We ought to be able to point him in the direction of which wheels will fit via an old post but I don't do links.OK I'm not to clever at that.
ANYBODY!

Default 14 inch to fit on 15 inch

Just to complete this saga :

it is possible to fit 14 inch wheels when originally the car was
equipped with 15 inch wheels.
the 14 inch wheels will foul on the brakecallipers.
though only just. you can grind a tiny corner off and it will not foul anymoore.
