It's a good question,
For me it was on the cards before the issue showed, I've had it 4 years I usually only keep cars around 3 before I get bored or feel the need for a change, thankfully the wife has a v70 D5 2003 so I still get my Volvo fix! Fancied going back to landrover defender one more time before I get too sore to climb in and out and deal with its issues, (I suffer form bad back and joint pain) so if I'm going to do it its better sooner than later. I don't really want to sell something with a major issue though. So hopefully it will be fixed first, but even if it is sorted the buyer will be told of what it's had, it's not right not too in my book. Sure I'll probably get Les for it as a result. This is why I'm keeping a tight eye on the repair budget. If I were more sensible I would keep it as you say knowing the car etc and way back my thought was keep it and get a cheaper defender and have them both s60 for every day etc, but doing the maths even with reduced mpg on the defender it's probably cheaper than keeping both, less tax, less insurance, less mot, less running repairs, also the drive will look a little less like a car lot lol! |

Ok
So we may have some progress! I had to reuse the pressure sensor that was on there because the one I ordered also didn't work (I may end up with a replacement genuine one) Replacement Lambda sensor is also on, Reset all codes and calibrated the sensor, brought it up to 2K rpm for a bit till the exhaust stopped doing its smoke machine impression (about 4 mins) No codes and see attached readings looking healthy ? SO.... Do I go for a drive up the motorway in 4th or do I do a forced re-gen ? Last edited by graemedench; Jun 30th, 2016 at 18:10. |

A bit high temp for idle , pressure seems good
Try a forced regen ,keeps you out of trouble when the highway regen doesnt work |

ok so some progress, looks like the DPF is ok now but the sensor is fubar, I'm waiting on yet another replacment ... I'm really wishing id just bought a genuine Volvo boxed one, from the 2 fake ones i've had looks like they just send out a fixed value. the volvo can tell its rubbish and rejects it. we'll see thrid time lucky, as ever I will report back when I have some news

On the top of my DPF (2006 D5 185 XC70) there are 2 sensors.
What is the front sensor? Reason I ask is that it has been replaced at some time and they cut off the corresponding plug on the loom side to connect it up with spade connectors. I assume this means it is a generic connector. Thinking about your experience I wonder if this is giving false readings. Thanks Joe |

It is the smaller sensor which looking down from the top and front of the car is on the left and a little to the back (not front as I said before !) . 2 wires. Does that help? Joe |

That's the cat temperature sensor, I wonder if s sensor was taken from somewhere else or maybe the plug was damaged

I guess the real problem is finding a plug to splice onto the loom - anyone know of a car that is being broken with a DPF? Joe |

Hi
Ok so new (second hand) Volvo sensor fitted and car is finally happy, no errors showing in vida (except the aqs errors) and car drives, but it's really under power and the dpf is getting really hot. I've stopped to let it cool then home and I'll upload the pics but it was over 700C at one point and I've was taking it reasonably gently to the motorway but decided it looked like it was getting too hot. So stopped to let it cool and post up, I suspect it's maybe got too many damaged cells ? So they block then regen then are ok then block far to quickly dunno just a gut feeling dpf pressure is around 20 at idle then drops to 4 immediately on ignition off then drops to 0 When driving I was seeing over 120 on the dpf pressure I couldn't look to much since I was driving obviously and the temps seemed a bigger issue. I couldn't get it to regen In front of the garage I kept getting vida errors Last edited by graemedench; Jul 6th, 2016 at 20:38. |
