Default Rear Trailing Arm Bushes Cost

My 14 yo V70 D5 R-design has just passed its MOT but have been advised the rear trailing arm bushes are worn. I understand that this is common issue on post 10 yo/100k mile V70s

What is the cost to replace these assuming a £70 per hour (inc VAT) labour cost?

I have a Volvo EV coming soon, so wonder if it is best to get the work done or sell it as it is? Car only has 73k miles and I have driven every one of them. It was originally my company car from new, and then I bought it from the leasing company 11 years ago.

It will be sad to see the old girl go as I have really looked after her, and she has looked after me.

I had a quote from A&T Volvo Specialists in Woking (01483 771818) back in October for £276 to replace both sides including parts, labour and VAT.

Just down the road from you....

If it is the front bushes on the rear trailing arms, I believe that they are partly hidden by plastic covers, then it is a major operation doing it yourself as various parts have to be removed to gain access and the bushes need to be pressed out and the new ones pressed in. I understand that Volvo have a special tool which enables them to do the job without dismantling half the rear suspension. We had our main dealer do my daughter’s XC70 at last service in February.

70 - 80k is the norm for these bushes, especially on our well maintained roads !!
Around £400 at a dealer which includes the tracking.

Mine were replaced at 75k and again last year at 153k.

Mine were £324 inc VAT and genuine parts at a Volvo specialist in Northampton recently. Paid for by the selling dealer thankfully.

Given the age of the car, and the fact that the original OEM bushings only lasted 70k miles, I am going to go pattern parts for the rear trailing arm bushings.

Can anyone recommend a half decent source of these bushings for purchase.

Looking at using an my indy, but as they generally only supply OEM parts, they will fit if I supply (A&T suggested above have not come back to me with a price but it has only been a few days).

Thanks in advance.

I like the look of these Powerflex 2 part bushings as a "better" solution to the problem. They are more expensive than the standard ones, but should be easier to fit and last longer.

Autodoc offer Lemforder brand bushes for about £23 each, but I believe the stock bushes are actually Ford parts as used in the Mondeo etc, and these are cheaper at less than £20 each.

Volvo OEM ones seem to be around £65 each - but are probably just Ford parts in a Volvo box.

Thanks, you seem very knowledgable.

Am I right that I need two of these? My reg is LC58 UAX

Thanks in advance for any help as I normally get the garage to sort this out.

Well, not particularly knowledgeable, but I recently did some research for my son's XC70.

You do indeed need two. One left and one right.

Sorry - I'm not making this sound any easier am I?

My decision when I was thinking about doing it at home on the drive was to get the PowerFlex bushings as they would be much easier to fit and wouldn't need a special tool that costs about £100 to press them in. But if I was having a garage do it for me, I would probably just have them use Volvo OEM parts. It would be cheaper than thePowerFlex bushes as the garage should already have the correct tools to press new bushes in.

I did the job a year ago - on my drive. I have detailed the process elsewhere on this forum, with photos. If I were to do it again i could do it in half a day - it took me two days, mainly because I distorted one of the bushes by attempting to press it in whilst a bit wonky (amazing how much power there is in a simple press tool). I bought the tool advertised for Mondeo, etc. on Ebay for just over £100 and sold it on for £70. Total cost for the whole job was just under £100. I fitted Lemförder bushes.

I had, originally, bought PowerFlex bushes to replace the standard ones, BUT I realised, after pushing out the original bushes, that I would really need to remove the trailing arms to fit the poly bushes, so bottled out and used the tool I had had to buy for the job to fit the replacements in situ...

It would have been a MUCH easier job if I had had access to a vehicle hoist...
