The video shows them both the same, but you'll only need one of these plus a smaller one. It's a bit of a faff to do, but not especially difficult.
Thanks Graphnic, great info

Yes it does, which is different from my previous V40 version.

No sign of water ingress but I should check more thoroughly.

Thanks

Thanks Yostumpy. Today I talked to the garage that did the last four services and it had a new battery in July 2021. I hope to get it checked on Vida next week.

Cable wear due to sharp edges (residue from injection molding) under the battery shelf is also a pretty common issue.

Since you sent this message I have been turning off BLIS and I haven't had a problem which suggests it is connected.

On another note, I have been finding out the history from the garage that diod the last four services. The Alternator pulley and belt were done in September 2020 (Daycor) as it was making a noise. The Cambelt was done in November 2021 but they are not sure if other belts were done too but probably not considering the work a year earlier.

However, the narrower inner belt below the alternator looks original as it has the number '1610214' on it - it is a Volvo belt and different from the wider outer belt. So is this actually the original belt and should I get it changed? If so should I also change the other belt and tensioner (replaced late 2020 - 28Ks ago) at the same time? Thanks for any advice!

Quick update: Took my car in today for Haldex sevice and transmission fluid change. They thought the Haldex must have been done before as there was less gunk around the pump than normal. The transmission oil was horrible apparently. They just did an oil change rather than a flush. I'll keep changing the oil every 6 months or so. As for the electrical problem, they narrowed it down to the driver's door module - the side where BLIS isn't working. So I'll get that replaced and hopefully that will sort it. Everything else looks good! Hallmark in Stockport were great. All a bit chaotic (isn't it always?)but they certainly seem to know what they are doing. They also did a software upgrade and something to do with tweaking software for the auto box? Happy days

Hi all

Apparently the Aux belt has been done twice during its 130K life but the tensioner hasn't been done at all. So I asked the Volvo specialist to book it in to be done and he said that it really depends on which tensioner is on this engine (D5 215). He said some generations of tensioners require adaptation that involves 'drilling a hole into the engine block'. Does anyone here know which years were effected? My car is late 2014. Many thanks!

I believe they tried 3 different tensioners on the V70 over it's life span, however I also think by 2014 it was already on it's last iteration so it shouldn't be a problem. Just get the latest version which should be the same as already on the car .

From what I remember being said there was a hydraulic tensioner early on in the production run which was part of a recall and that needed a hole drilled and tapped to take the updated part which was no longer hydraulic.

Do a search on the V70 forum for "hydraulic tensioner" and you should find the information. Look out for any information posted by Clan as he gave a detailed explanation and time line.

Thank you kdst5, that reassured me. I had it checked and it is fine and doesn't need any modification. I'll get a new belt and tensioner fitted as soon as I can.

Now I need to try and find a used BLIS friendly drivers door module to fix the electric. Hopefully then it will be all sorted!
