When my DIM failed, the left hand information panel stopped working. A week or so later it completely packed up.

I paid £70 to have my DIM repaired. I sent it to a guy in London who trades on here, and it now works fine. Don't think he's been on here for months, and has had issues with another member, so I'll leave it at that.

Bought my '02 @ 70K
My high beam indicator was never 100% reliable as were the trip odometers. They performed only when cold (a solder joint issue, I conclude).
Pressing to reset to zero or to go from A to B often didn't work. Often pressing to zero will zero out a reading for 1 minute then the mileage returns.
Often the button is dead.

At ~180K the clock began running at blinding fast speed in either direction.

I'm @ 187K now and have no intention of doing anything about it unless there's a "$100 promotional offer" somewhere.
That's about right.....£70 with postage seems fair....so much else to do.

Default Dim Repair

The Dim on my 2003 V70 diesel suddenly started to play up. It was either fully working or nothing at all showed, ie; completely blank. Spokoluzik (who posts on this forum) repaired it for me and reprogramed it to get rid of the fault codes. It's now fully working and done at a very reasonable cost.

Mine failed at about 130k/11 years. Started with a garbled messages then winter 2012, after a very cold spell, it went blank. It worked on hot days (luckily, MOT's in July!) but stopped altogether last year. I bought a fully working one off ebay that came off a 2003 car and had 112k on it - this has run fine until now but a few days ago, the message display briefly gave a garbled message. This unit has done 118K/12 years.

I have just sent off my original DIM for repair!

Hi all, just boughta 52 reg v70 d5 with the common dim symptoms, already contacted volvodiagnostic.com about getting a repaired one sent out and sending my faulty one back but I abit sceptical about paying £219 for reconditioned unit to be sent out and get a refund of the difference when I send my faulty unit back. Sure the price is £62 so refund would be £157. I still have my previous car, a jag stype which is still insured for another two weeks, so I'm thinking just take out my faulty dim, pay £62 and send to volvodiagnostic, wait 3 days and use my jag whilst waiting. Seems volvodiagnostic is a trusted service just abit sceptical. What's your thoughts? Oh and I was thinking about driving the Volvo without the dim installed as nothing works with it installed anyway.

Hi Guys / Gals,
My pals Dim packed in completely about a month or two ago, completely black with no signs of life.
When i took the dash apart to look at it, I found that the flat cable had broken, (if i can show the pic I will),Broken DIM LCD Panel.jpg
But ALL I replaced was the LCD Panel NOT the whole DIM, and it works brill,
So I suggest trying that first,
cheers
Joe.

Well, got my V70 (02) yesterday and the textual dim box on the bottom left has corrupted and flickering characters, does this sound like just the LCD bit being faulty or more serious (= expensive) problem?
It seems to be intermittent, when the car arrived it said clearly a message about "time for regular service".
