If I buy fuel from the garage, I understand why I would have to pay duty and tax. However, if I should put a "disposable source" (aka cooking oil) of fuel in my car myself, why would I be liable for duty and tax and how would they know? Cooking oil isn't taxed and I would not have a delivery tanker outside my house to raise suspicion! I don't recall ever being stopped for a fuel check. So, ahem, what are the approximately exact ratios of oil to white spirit then? ... roughly? :+

I 'think' the issue is not that cooking oil is not taxed but fuel is therefore if you are using it as fuel you get taxed - bit like farmer's diesel which is died red from memory and available at all large filling station suprisingly located in a field! Wilst it may be cheaper, it doesnt come with free glasses and is taxed at a different rate because of its usage.

However on the subject of disposable sources, should there be an addition of brown or tomato to disguise the inevitable chip aroma when passing the said VOSA van? :+

On the basis that a link is not naughty, you might find what you want here http://www.northwales.org.uk/bio-power/wvo.htm ;-)

But to sum up, yes, on a 92 car you can take the cat out as the emissions standard it has to meet will be much higher than that of a post 93 car when cats were legally required to be fitted to manufactured cars, and the emissions level dropped.

You can take it out on any car, just that you'll need to put it back for the MOT on some, some cars do pass the MOT emissions test without it though even complying with emission regs for cars made from 1994 on, unfortunately mine doesnt, needs the cat back in each time, Co level of 1.0 without it, ouch, thats due to slightly cowboy set up techniques without remapping the ECU though, will sort it out with a unichip in a month or two.
