HELLO!!!
As a new user on Volvoclub, I just want to say 'hi' to all and introduce myself.
I'm Gordon, live in Edinburgh, and will hopefully be purchasing another Volvo in the very near future if I can find a suitable car. I've looked at a couple of S70 T5's during the past 10 days, but both were extremely rough and needed a lot of work done. Can anyone give me any advice on the following questions? 1) Are there any decent independent Volvo specialists in the Edinburgh/ Central Scotland area who do servicing, repairs, etc.? 2) Are there any independent dealers in Scotland who deal in ex-cop cars, especially Volvos? I'm friendly with a retired traffic cop, who tells me that, although having been driven hard, most ex-cop T5's are good buys, having been meticulously serviced and looked after. I know that there is a dealer in Dudley who deals in this kind of stuff, but its a bit far to go for me. I'm also led to believe that there's also a dealer in Newcastle who sells ex-cop cars. Anyone point me in the right direction? Many thanks for any advice given. Kind regards Gordon |

RE: HELLO!!!
Hi Gordon,
Welcome to the VOC club,I think you will find it very informative and all the people are very helpful. Now you have a Volvo do you realise that you will be hooked for life? I am sorry I can't help you with dealers in your area, but if you look in the VOC magazine you should see plenty of adverts. Most of these do a very reasonable rate for posting. If you go to a dealer don't forget to show the VOC card to get your discount. I always produce it after all the pricing is done so that they don't put some on before giving you your 'discount' Vaughan |

RE: HELLO!!!
Hi Gordon,
Welcome to the madhouse. I am down the road near Cockburnspath currently running a variety of 760, 240 and 360 cars. I use The MacKinnon Motor Company in Clockmill Lane, opposite Meadowbank statium as a reliable independent. A number of their mechanics are ex-Volvo dealer mechanics. Apart from tne mechanical side they also do bodywork. They will also give loan cars (if requested in advance) and will collect/deliver in Edinburgh. Over the years I have found them reliable and honest in their approach to the work. The will respect your motor while it is in their care. Can't help with the ex-police motors though as I have neve been inclined to look for one. Cheers, Ian Junor

RE: HELLO!!!
Hi again
Many thanks for your replies to my earlier enquiry. I have seen this company advertise their cars for sale in the various local newspapers, I think as MacKinnon & Costello. However I didn't realise that they are Volvo independents, so when I do find a suitable car, I will give them a bell. I am also led to believe that a company in Dalkeith, Roseisle Motor Co, are supposed to be both Volvo and Saab independents, so I might look further into this one as well. Does anyone have any knowledge of them? Once again, many thanks for your advice. Kind regards Gordon |

RE: HELLO!!!
Gordon,
MacKinnon & Costello are the same organisation. It is not so much that they are Volvo independents - they service / repair whatever you have. Their Volvo knowledge is high and they do value your custom. (I am not on a percentage by the way! :( )

Ian
Many thanks for the further info. I will definitely give them a bell once I find a suitable car, hopefully in the not too distant future. Regards Gordon |
