Default What cam do I have?

1986 360 GLE MY85 B200E

I was texting Logan360 and he said he didn't get a torque surge at circa 3K in his GLT B200E where as I do, we though it might be due to different cams. So I was wondering what cam I have and is it any good?
I don't know much about the different types of cams so apologies if my info is a bit vague.

I did a bit of a search online and found the turbobricks page on cams and it says B200E engines came with V cams, any good?

The B230E's came with a V (but when fitted to a GLT a K)

I'm not 100% sure in a 360 but 240's with a B200E have a A cam

Here's a link to the turbobricks cam list
http://www.turbobricks.com/resources...ontent=camspec
It says B200E has a V cam.
Perhaps the cams varied from car to car not just the engines.

We have recently covered cam's on v3m. there are so many different one's its nuts. You have to pull the can cover off and it should be etched on the cam if I'm not mistaken.

Pretty certain it'll be an A cam. What model year is Logan360's 360? May be due to the 86 MY being higher compression?

Is there a gasket I will need to replace if I remove the cam cover?
I've never really dealt with cams etc so this is new to me.

A UK 86 GLT would 10:1, the last high compression injection year, unless it was a special country requirement for very low octane. Carb continued with high compression until 87.

Makes a huge difference at near tickover along with the more advanced ignition. You don't need revs to pull off (1000 is enough for a strong pull of the mark). I kept stalling the 87 360 GLT, 940 Turbo and 323i after having driving the 87 360 GLE for so long.

They kept the same overall power in the low compression version by changing the cam and moving the power band up the revs with more dwell and lift. There is a table about somewhere with all the figures.

B200E on a 360 is not the same as a 700/900 B200E. You can't use the short engine code to determine the cam or compression. You need an 2nd letter (eg B200EO).

low compression cam is A cam. high compression K, I think, might be the other way round or different again for injection.
