Radio
Hi well car passed MOT and is back on road.
Looking to replace modern radio with period radio, does anyone know the model which Volvo or its dealers would have fitted at the time. Car is a 1966 P1800 |

Jocky;
The 1800 is quite cramped behind dashboard, so one can't simply fit the radio in its' slot...back of the radio would interfere with the Wiper linkage...you must fit it with what I call the "radio wedge"...this is a factory accessory which spaces the lower edge out about 15 degrees (resulting in the back dropping, and clearing those linkages). This piece limits radio options to the "three hole" style, but that was common and typical at that time. You might still want to have the Radio Wedge in-hand before considering radios to avoid dimensional disappointments. Like so: Cheers from Connecticut! I have a period Volvo radio from my PV544 - AM only. Knobs are missing otherwise intact and allegedly working. Make an offer and I'll try and get a shipping cost from Canada.

This must be the ultimate radio for the Volvo 1800
http://www.becker-mexico-retro.de/en/ If only my 1800ES was in a good enough condition, it's been in the garage for many years in need of a restoration, and my pockets deep enough to justify the Becker. |

I've been thinking of just getting an amp head with an input for an iPod, not bothering with radio. I did have a radio/CD player but it was nicked, so I'm up for a completely invisible set up. Has anyone else tried this?
