Default Which radio for a 1987 Volvo 760?

Hi, I’ve been looking to reinstate the original radio in my 1987 Volvo 760 turbo, however there seems to be different radios in different models. Does anyone know which is the correct radio for the year?
Thanks

Which dashboard have you got? Is it the facelift one or the 740 style?

With either, there was a standard one (which i'm not too sure what it was) and some available options including a double-DIN unit with a graphic equaliser in the bottom half, a single-DIN unit with a cubby hole underneath (this is what i've got although i didn't have the OE radio) and a few other options.

The earlier (pre-facelift) dash seemed to only have one size option as far as i know but i could be wrong.

It’s a pre facelift 760/740 dashboard. It currently has an aftermarket stereo with storage underneath. My facelift one has an original graphic equaliser 2 storey radio.
Thanks for the advise

The CR 906 is a superb standard DIN size radio and was fitted in many 700/900 and other volvo models of the time , It is a cassette/Radio , with built in 4 x 20w amplifier with provision for an external Amplifier and CD Changer , It has RDS and all the other usuals , traffic information etc .
you can pick them up now and then there must be a few cars being broken up on here ...

There is a CR-906 available on a thread about a 98 940 being broken at the moment - however i should point out someone else currently has first refusal but it seems the plugs between the OE CR-706 as fitted to the 740s of the time (and i understand, early 940s) are not compatible with the later 906 version.

All depends what wiring you have in your 740, if someone has used the plug-in patch-leads then you can easily revert to the OE radio or simply find a replacement DIN sized generic uint with DIN ISO connectors if that's what you have.

He could ask for the plugs ( two ) as well with about 6 inches of loom , all the wires will be there just in a different order . Then work out which ones to connect together 😉

It's unlikely a 1987 would have had a CR-906 ... more likely a CR-702, if that. Bob

That idea was offered by the vendor but the buyer is reluctant as he has a very original 940GLE with the B230E LH-2.4 (not the B230E K-Jet) with low miles and few owners.

For someone else who already has a mutilated loom that would definitely be an option but he wants to keep it original if possible. Negotiations are ongoing though as he might strip the later unit to repair the one he has.

yes but the much better 906 will fit with a few slight wiring mods at the plugs

Couple of CR-702s on the bay of fleas :

Might be a better option to keep it more original?
