Default V70 cooling fan always running.

Hi
Im re-posting this as didnt get many replies unfortunately and Im sure someone out there knows an answer? Basically from the moment the engine is switched on til it is switched off the cooling fan runs constantly. With or without AC on still does it.I suspect a faulty control module buw would like to know how to test this before buying a whole new fan.Many thanks. V70 T5 2006.

Not easy to test , you could cut the thin signal wire to prove it is not being instructed to run by the engine ECU , it can easily be joined up again .

Does your AC work ok? Mine used to do this when I first bought it, got it re-gassed and its been ok since.

Default Thank you

Thanks Savabill and Clan for your replies;
Clan-is the sensor wire part of the power harness to the fan? I cant see a seperate supply going to the fan module other than the power lead which surprises me?
Savabill-thanks for that I read another post about this and couldent really believe it but with you mentioning it as well Ill try that as my A/C is just barely cool.
Thanks again guys!

yes there are only 3 wires to the fan unit , 12 volts , earth and a thin signal wire which sends digital data from the engine ECU to tell the fan how fast to run ... Of course it could be defaulting to ON all the time if there is a problem with the heating or cooling systems , but should not run all the time with everything turned off and the car parked up .

Im wondering if the water temp sensor isnt working so the ECU is telling the fan to operate at all times?

Check the cooling fan relay - its mounted under the rear facing left hand side of the black cowling/housing than runs across above the radiator as you look at the car from the front.

They are manufactured to fail in the "relay closed / power supplied" ie on or 1 state to prevent the car overheating when they fail.
