Default V70 D5 185, Loss of power, engine system service, EGR?

My 2006 V70 has recently lost power. Initially this would be intermittent and would happen mid-journey and it was only noticeable when more power was needed eg. when needing to accelerate after cruising on the motorway for a while. But now it lacks power for all driving.

I put my torque pro diagnostic app on it yesterday and got code P0404 for EGR control circuit range/performance.

I recently (about 3 months before this issue) cleaned the EGR, just because I thought it would be a good thing to do.

I will investigate the EGR and clean it again. Are there any other things I could do to check it?

Also, though this seems to be the right area to be looking at, would people recommend doing further diagnostics with a tool that can read Volvo specific codes before I start looking at the EGR?

Yes get VIDA/DICE connection and use the EGR valve test. Will tell you if the valve is stuck or operating.

If your code reader can see parameters, read out barometric and boost pressure sensor at igniton only. They should read the same. We get egr codes for boost pressure sensor failure.

Thanks for your responses.
I had another look at the car this morning. It seemed to be back to normal power for the first few minutes, but then it dropped off again.

I looked at the barometric pressure and boost pressure with ignition on and they were what I would interpret as the same:
(barometric showing 14.5 psi and boost showing 0 psi - I assume the barometric pressure is in psia and boost in psig)

I also had a throttle position gauge on display. When turning the engine off I could hear the throttle moving and the gauge showed it going to I think about 0% and back to 90% a couple of times, as I think it should do.
I did notice it going between 30% and 90% while driving (only round the block) sometimes when I was moving at constant speed.

Another gauge I had on display was the EGR error. This showed -100% with ignition on and a constant 99.2% with the engine running (after oscillating a bit for the first 20 secs after starting). I'm unsure what I should be looking for here though.

I'll try to attach screen shots...

Hello, so it could be the boost sensor? I also have the same issue. Faultcode on the EGR but i think it is not the EGR..

Where is the boost sensor located V70 D5 185HP.

Fixed with a new egr position sensor. About £150 from parts for Volvos online.
Easy to fit with about 4 screws. I had the battery disconnected while I did it.
