Default '98 V70XC Mk1 AWD, 10mths MOT, 85k

Hi all,
My partner bought this car in January but doesn't like it-she drives my 744 all the time and finds the V70 too big, so we're parting with it.

Good bits:

Just under 85,000 miles

MOT until Jan 2020

Goes like a rocket-its the 190ish BHP one.

Nice full leather interior

7 seater with foldaway jumpseats in the boot

Stock alloys

Bad bits:

It needs some bits doing-rear discs and pads are required (they went down to the metal on our last journey in it) and the OSR caliper needs either replacing or rebuilding-it has a sticky piston.

It will need a new rear exhaust assy before the next MOT. The current one has corrosion and is blowing somewhat. Sounds great but will need doing!

It had a spot of hydraulic lifter noise when cold-this goes away after 30secs of running or so. I'm sure an engine flush or a blast with some ATF in the oil before changing it would settle this down.

There is a patch of bubbling on the OSF wing along the detail line, will be easy to sort for someone with the skills.

The handbrake works but isn't brilliant-I would imagine new shoes would sort this when you do the rear discs and pads.

Would benefit from a good polish and some plastic detailing with Gtechniq C4 or similar to make it really stand out.

I've no idea what it's worth-it's a solid, low mileage car which would make a great motor for someone with a little bit of work. Quite an unusual car which is bound to increase in value as time goes on.

It's not being used and we want to see it sold to the right person who will give it the love it deserves.

All offers considered! We're in Sherborne in Dorset.

Cheers
Phil

I think you may struggle to sell without a logbook. A bit of rust, rear discs and pads would not actually bother me, especially with 10 months on the MOT.

But no V5C is actually down to you not having the slip and sending off, not the previous owner.

I would have thought you would get so much more if the car was legally yours and would think it easy for you to do...

The problem was that the tear-off slip that the previous owner gave us with the car was from a V5C that was out of date-presumably from a sale an owner or two previously. We became aware of this after having to jump through hoops to tax the car, called DVLA and they said the green slip we had was out of date. Previous owner promised to send his remainder off with our details but appears to be unreachable and the new logbook never arrived.

It's £25 and a form to fill out to get a replacement logbook, even without the green "new keeper's" slip. We've only had the car a few weeks though and what with waiting for the previous owner to get his act together first, we haven't applied. Simple job for the next owner though.

To be fair mate. If it were a ‘simple job for the next owner’ and £25 quid you would have done it surely?

I reckon that’s probably devalued your car to pretty much nothing.

10months mot with or without problems is easily worth 1000 quid. I wouldn’t be suprised if you got a couple of grand for that cleaned up.

Not when it’s not legally your car however.

Just to reiterate the same conversation you have been having with my partner via eBay (and myself here):

Of course it's legally my (or rather my partner's) car, we have a bill of sale from the previous owner. Registered keeper and legal owner are two different things. By that logic, you could argue that every car on a dealer's forecourt isn't "legally their car" because they're not all registered in the dealer's name. Possessing a V5C doesn't indicate legal ownership, just that the car is currently in your care and use.

The bottom line is that my partner bought the car, ran it for a bit and when the issues with the rear brakes made themselves evident, we weighed up getting it fixed but my partner isn't keen on the car, so we've decided to get shot of it and replace it with another 2/7/900 series car. I have run and maintained the older Redblock cars for years, have a local breaker who specialises in then (JMC Autosalvage, 20 mins from me) and we prefer them. Simple as that.

The car has some issues. We have been totally transparent about that, both here and in the eBay listing.

As I said previously, the former owner didn't send off the logbook or it didn't get sent to us. Either way, our green NKS is out of date/from a previous sale, so we can't apply using that. We could download a form from the DVLA, print it out, send it off and pay £25 for a new logbook and wait for up to six more weeks for it to be delivered, but that's extra expense and hassle, plus a lengthy delay in getting rid of a car that we don't intend to keep. Obviously if we intended to keep the car, we would do it.
