Default Roof Bars for Clean Roof V40

Good morning! It's good to be among others to whom I don't have to explain how someone can love a V40 as much as I do. At home at last!

After partially dismantling my enormous bicycle this past weekend and cramming it in the back of the V40 (along with my wife's bike, my daughter's bike and my daughter herself), I realised that I need some sort of external bicycle carrying solution. I'm averse to a rear mounted one because of its impedance to boot access, and I don't want to install a tow bar. Unless I'm missing anything, that leaves me with a roof mounted system. Unfortunately, I don't have roof rails.

I'd like to know if anyone has found bars which mount across the roof without having to install roof bars or clamp around the edge of the roof. Could you recommend a name brand, an old OEM part number, or even sell me yours ? I think once I get the bars sorted I can find my own bike mounting system, unless someone feels passionately that I should get the kind they have.

Thanks!

You can fit roof rails to your car, I got a set on Ebay for £100 just after I got my car and they came with new plastic ends. I'm pretty sure I realised it was a forum member off here which sold them to me. You could always look for a set of roof rails on a car in a scrap yard and get the new plastic ends from Volvo for a nice clean look. I believe the plastic ends normally self destruct on removal!

Halfords sell generic bars. Basically you need the right ends for your car. You just look 'em up and buy 'em with the bars, and bolt 'em on.

Then you can mount anything you like it. In my case, an old bedsted makes a briliant roof rack. It's gradually rusting away, which is a shame because it's the best roof rack i've ever had. Seriously. Nothing comes even close for versatility than an old bedsted, I can rope anything to it, it's wonderful.

LOL! You would be amazed at the stuff i've carried on it. I realise it's not an elegant solution, but in practical terms it's better than anything you can buy.

Besides, what's wrong with a towbar? It's not a real car without a towbar!

Well, thank you folks, that's all much appreciated. I will check out scrap yards first, then the skip behind the charity shop that sells beds, and finally Halfords! I'll be on my way.

Default Original Volvo roof bars.

Hi Adam.
I bought them second hand but never got round to installing them.
You can have them for the price I paid which was £10:00.
Regards,
David
