Default S80 hissing noise

2007 S80 2.4 D

Hi all,

I can hear a hissing noise in my car, which is certainly more prominent when the radio is off. It stops once I press the brake pedal & starts again as soon as I release it. If you don't touch the pedal at all, like if the car is idling as an example, the hissing noise is constant.

What could this be & is it an expensive fix? The brakes themselves seem fine - The pads still have plenty of life in them, the brake fluid looks clean & the level is fine. I would say that the brake pedal feels a tad spongy if I'm being honest, but nothing what I'd consider out of the ordinary considering larger cars tending to have that softer pedal/smoother braking action.

Any suggestions are much appreciated.

Sounds like a vacuum leak from the servo, but someone who knows Volvos specifically could confirm that.

Nail on the head.

Not same car but similar so these videos may be of use for noise comparison.

It looks like a fiddly job, but it sounds like air is leaking from the rubber boot like that video. I imagine labour wise it wouldn't be cheap either.

Its probably best getting it looked at by a garage.
