Just got my c70 through but not quite as easily. New rear calipers pads discs and handbrake shoes. Two new tyres also on the rear. Two new headlights because they were corroded and not showing the required pattern. Oh and a number plate light bulb. All in all including the test and retest £598. If it had been a lesser car it would have been straight down the scrapyard. Oh how we love our Volvo's!

Got my 1996 850 2.5 10V through last month too, had already done rear calipers pads and discs, it just needed 280 pounds worth or exhaust pipe from the cat back, with an advisory for a small leak on the flexi.

Good job we love them, it's only the play car as well so an utter waste of money strictly.

Unfortunately my 96 850t-5 failed her's today.
1) uneven braking, although the mechanic did say that it could be as simple as the new discs and pads need to run in.
2) excessive movement in steering. The mechanic said something about the bushes on the rack need replacing and that he was waiting for volvo to get back to him as the whether they were available separately.

She also had 2 advisories for worn tires.

So far she has had both wishbones replaced, link rod ends replaced plus 4 new mintex discs and pads.

Not sure if I should buy a recon rack or not. It might be cheaper that way than the labour costs of having it repaired. At least I should be able to fit it myself.

Got my 850 2.5 20v MOT'd last week.
199,000 miles and just needed anti roll bar , headlight realigned and front brake caliper freeing off!
Mind, the previous owner had spent over £2500 in parts over the last two years.....

@swampies, my GLT failed earlier this year due to a leaking power steering rack.

The frenchie MOT guy condemned the rack!

I luckily managed to source a 'dry' but used RHD rack here (via a frenchie Volvo forum I use) for 90€

I had it fitted by a garage (too much for me) for 200€ .

Parts for Volvo do a rack repair kit, for abou £30 ish. Apparently a pain to fit 'on the car' but easy off. I left my kit with the mec' , but he didn't fit it! Not sure why, but I got a refund...

When I was on the hunt, Salvo in Derby had a used re-con one for something like £110 delivered ( in UK) . Also forum member Rip33sta (or something like that, sorry to him of that's wrong) had a good used one for about £90.

Good luck and keep us informed of how you get on

Thanks Paul240480

I'm still waiting for the garage to get back to me as it seems they don't know how to use a phone.

I've spotted a recon one on eBay for £115
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1409318463...84.m1423.l2649

The next problem to sort is the brakes. Not sure how to sort the brakes if it is a case of just need running it , as the car needs to be driven to bed them in but can't be driven if she's failed the mot.
Perhaps I should not of told the garage that £400 was my limit.
