10v Head Skimming to increase Power?
as above.. anyone any idea what amount would need to be skimmed off to notice any performance increases?
headgasket went and im thinking ill get the head skimmed to be safe when putting it all back together then i got to thinking if im getting it skimmed anyway it would be a good excuse to see about getting more skimmed off to increase compression. the car is rarely run on anything less than 95 octane petrol from shell so shouldnt have to worry about that aspect..

You'd see more performance running on 97 ron fuel than any amount of skimming. It won't be much either way.

head skimming for increased efficiency was for low compression engines from the 60's , doing this to a modern high efficiency high compression engine will cause no end of problems , volvo stipulate a minimum head thickness any more than about 0.004" off is too much ...

Maybe be best to get it ported and polished rather than getting it skimmed

it will flow more air then and put the engine managment light on .. Its not easy tuning modern engines unless you use something like an emerald M3D engine managment computer ...

Chap I have read some of your other posts on this forum.
If you want performance buy a T5. Wasting good money "improving" a 10v 2.5 is financial suicide. Take it from me I've had an 855 2.5 10v for nearly six years! (Bought for a pittance and done near on 50,000 miles in my ownership) In that time prices have dropped like stones and cheap T5's are now in abundance. I know where you could get a £1500 (plus haggling) 850 T5R with 168k see below: http://www.vpcuk.org/forums/showthread.php?t=17677 Its worth thinking about. Cheers

Have to agree with the last poster, it would be cheaper to sell and buy a T5 than chase a few horsepower in your 10v.
There are a few around in excellent condition, but they come up less often now as most have reached the 'Council Estate Ferrari' stage and subsequently not been looked after in the way they should be.
