RE: 16T vs 19T
The larger turbos are generally more efficient (dont heat the air as much) but i think that its not really a concern with our cars to much as the 18's and 19's dont perform anywhere near there max on our cars.
volflo a friend of swededemon has a 19t and he says that at the same boost the 19t give better performance than the 16t. i wouldnt bother with ic spayers etc, i think they are just gimmics mostly and a hassle to setup etc. just save the money and make sure your car is in tip top condition.

RE: 16T vs 19T
This is going to sound stupid too - take a look at it!
You can make it out by peering in from the top of the engine. You might have to take the heatshield off to see it (if you've got one :-)) I'd guess straight? as Bobcat said, for 1998 cars. Alastair ---------------------------- http://www.volvoclub.org.uk/photopos...357v70-sig.jpg |

RE: 16T vs 19T
yeah best to take a look, you can probably see it with the heat shield in place if you get your head in there.
I think you will have a straight dp as the s70r auto's have the 16t and NOT the 18t like on the manuals. so this is your car below. 16T - B5234T3 240hp 1997-1998 finns i S/V/C70 T5, straight oulet from turbine

RE: 16T vs 19T
OK, after all my mutterings on the subject here's what I decided:
:-) 16T :-) Here's why. 16T - no insurance worries / better response, less lag / I won't be doing the kind of driving to make best use of a larger turbo. 19T - more grunt at top end but less availability across the rev-range, hence not for me. And incidentally I haven't been able to find *anyone* who can supply an 18T for my car at a resonable price... good idea though Iain. Thank goodness that's sorted! Thanks all. RE: 16T vs 19T
your correct it is a "16T - B5234T3 240hp 1997-1998 finns i S/V/C70 T5, straight oulet from turbine"
and that means i can fit a 18t without changing the dp, right??? ;) |

I would try and find a member with a 19t that would be willing to take you out for a spin. then you will know for sure. out of interest, whats wrong with your current turbo?

I drive an auto and the 18t works very well, so dont worry about why volvo didnt fit it as std! also get yourself a tranny cooler, as if your chipped or gonna be putting on bigger turbo's the tranny wont last long under the extra load\heat.

RE: 16T vs 19T
My current turbo is putting out lots of oil when it goes on boost. Possibly to do with the fact it's done 155k!
I would have gone for the 19T, but Chris (with the Saffron C70) and AfterShock (on the other board) I believe have both done exactly that and both recommended staying with the 16T. I was actually out in Chris's a couple of weeks ago, an impressive car but it was hard to tell how much was the 19T and how much was the RICA! I was keen on an 18T as you have, but can't easily get it for the later cars with angled downpipe unfortunately. Hence, 16T! Hi Alastair
Just putting this post on to see if your help in producing a signature did the trick. Thanks again in anticipation.
