Default FS (soon) - ex Danish embassy 940 GLE LPT

Yes, I'm really selling this (almost) show standard car. Its for a number of reasons, the main one being that I don't feel that its right to modify it in the way that I want to - its currently exactly as it was when the embassy owned it (barring the B200FT wastegate actuator). My wife is also less than impressed with the austere looking interior, despite the wafting comfyness.

After the air conditioning condenser was replaced by the local garage, the aircon hasn't worked at all, so its going back to them to get them to fix it. After that I'll advertise the car properly with some decent pictures tec - this advert is just a notice of intent

The car passed its MoT a few weeks ago - it got a clean sheet, no advisories. The mileage is around 110k kilometers (about 62k miles?) - I'll put the exact figure in the later advert.

In my ownership over the last year I have replaced -

spark plugs (NGK)
HT Leads (Bougicord)
cambelt (Volvo)
cambelt idler (Volvo)
air filter (Mann)
oil filters x2 (Volvo & Mann)
oil (Valvoline Maxx Life 10W40)
radiator (Nissens)
radiator hoses (Volvo)
coolant reservoir with level guard (Volvo)
thermostat (Volvo)
coolant (Bluecol)
aux belts x3 (Volvo)
air con condenser (Nissens)
battery (Exide IIRC)
alternator (recon Bosch)
rear sunblind - genuine Volvo and incredibly rare
windscreen wipers
headlamp wipers

I've also fitted some replacement used parts -

both headlamps as originals were losing the chrome
rear deck speakers with genuine Volvo ones

Thats enough of a teaser for now, I'll post a proper advert in due course, just wanted to let you know in case anyone is/will be looking for a superb quality, very low mileage 940 with an interesting (documented) history.

I'll be looking for £4k for peeps on here - if there is no interest it'll go on Car & Classics at £4500, and possibly will go to a specialist auction.

Thanks for reading.

Hi RT,

Sorry to hear you're looking at selling your 940 as I know you've put a lot of work, and no doubt several ££'s into it.

However I think you've done the right thing with such history, if you want to do some modifications, then another car is probably the best option.

Hopefully a fellow on here will want it, if not, then auction house might be best route as they can push the history/embassy link, obviously depending on their commission rates of course.

Just out of interest, what have you in mind??

Cheers
Steve

Thanks everyone.

You'll probably have read how tortuously I have been thinking about this. I wasn't going to make any irreversible changes, but they would be changes and so the history of the car would potentially be impacted. So when SWMBO complained about the 'austere' interior (its a top of the range GLE lol), then it started to swing my view.

Where do I go from here? My initial thought was that I'd get an S90 as I genuinely love the 900 saloon shape and I also love the whiteblock engine. However the new ULEZ zone appearing in Sheffield where I work has made me ponder about getting something ULEZ compliant so that I'll be able to continue commuting by car in the future - the current ULEZ excludes private cars, but you just know that exclusion is going to be withdrawn in a year or so... This is being introduced by the same council that cut down 1000s of healthy trees in the city a few years ago ( https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/...-inquiry-finds ) ...

So the 940 probably won't be replaced by another Volvo - although I'll still be in the Volvo family as the 850R is staying put!

As we don't know what we're going to do just yet (even if its going to be a petrol or diesel) we're not considering any swaps etc at the moment. We've gone from thinking of an S90 Royal all the way to a Fiat Panda and everything in between My body is getting too old to be crawling under cars now, so this will be our last car purchase for a number of years which is why we're not rushing into anything.

Hi. I was mulling over buying this car last year when you bought it. I might be interested in buying it of you if you are still selling?

Hi, yes it's for sale now - I took some more pictures for the advert last weekend as it happens!

It passed it's MoT with no advisories of course. I took the car back to the garage for them to look at the aircon again - to cut the story short, I had a 'discussion' with them after they said they didn't have any aircon testing equipment...! So there is still a leak there somewhere, but I've decided not to take it further as the car is for sale - I thought I'd just declare it instead.

I'm not aware of any other issues now, and have been driving it to work every now and then.

I'm asking a straight £4k for it but that will include a load of 940 spares including a set of wheels that I was going to refurbish and fit. My spreadsheet says that the car stands me at just over £6k so it's a bargain really.

If it doesn't sell here I'll be putting it up for auction on Bonham's website, but I'll have a reserve of £4500 then to cover the extra costs.

Let me know if you're interested and we can have a video walk around the car at the weekend.

All the best Sam

Just to put a line under this advert not-an-advert...

I'm no longer selling the 940.

We're keeping it for a good number of years now, and it'll continue to be cherished by us. Thanks for the interest and apologies for any disappointment.
