B200E Crank Housing

Good morning all,

I'm attempting to replace the gasket on the crank housing of my B200E engine, as well as the crank shaft seal itself. Can anyone advise on a careful way to do this? After the removal of the five bolts, it is still well and truly stuck on; I noticed that there are two other studs (see photo, circled) which don't appear to be bolts as the tops are circular (I may be wrong?). I just thought it may be worth asking first if anyone has any good tips on how to do this before I mess it up and crack the housing cover or something?!!

They can take a bit of prying off. Make sure you have undo the bolts that come up through the sump, if the sump is going to come off take that off first.

The two pins are to correctly locate the cover otherwise the seal might not seal

Looks like there is another 10mm bolt on the left hand side of the photo too, don't forget the two 13mm bolts that go through the sump to the crank housing.

If the gasket isn't leaking I would leave it. You will have to disturb the sump gasket too , one thing leads to another! If you have to remove the cover heat up the casing around the dowel with a small gas torch. that will loosen it a bit.

Many thanks for the reply! I had no idea this involved the sump.....possibly beyond my abilities! I think I had better research which bolts you are referring to! Good information on those two pins, thanks for that.......it explains why they have circular heads.

Thanks! I'd missed that 6th bolt! This job is getting bigger & bigger!!!!

Many thanks for this; unfortunately, there was a lot of leakage at the bottom of the seal, so I will try and go the whole hog with it! All fun & games!!! I guess the part pulls out, rather than just being a covering plate which is what I thought it was originally?
