Default intermittent wiper relay location

Can anyone tell me where it is? My friend's wipers are playing up and he can't find it. Many thanks.

Attached to the steering column, there are a few relays in pressed metal clips under there.

Take the 4 fasteners out that hold the carpet in above the pedals, and you will see them.

Don't do what my house mate did, which is whilst playing with the electrics in the same place on his bmw knock the wiper stalk and get his finger trapped in the linkage :s One of those times when pulling the battery might not seem needed but makes a heck of a lot of sense.

Thanks for the reply, battery disconnection a good idea. I damaged an instrument panel by not doing that. That car was in the end broken up and I kept a few parts including the intermittent wiper relay, but I could not remember exactly where it came from. I have given the relay to the friend. He has the stalk cover and the cover you mention off, has found the several relays in metal clips, but not the slightly larger intermittent one.

Now it comes back to me, I remember a metal clip on the steering column, that must be the one that held the intermittent relay. I also remember that these type of clip have sharp edges, easy to cut one's finger on.

My friend is going to bring his car round today for me to look.

Thanks once again.

Thanks, the friend suggested he did that, but I was hesitant about removing it. He will be here later today, we will have another look.

You've clearly met the clip before

Relay wise, most cars are common in how that relay is wired and the pinout, so it's normally worth grabbing a new one from a factors or similar for a fiver save having to do the job twice. I chucked a mk3 Golf one in both my Volvo and the Corsa, gives you programmable intermittent wipers.

My friend has just been round with his car, I found the relay, it was as mentioned, on the column, but a bit more hidden by wiring than on my car. Strangely, since moving it, all OK at the moment.

Thanks to all that have replied.

Yes, I was surprised that Volvo left such sharp edges!

I looked at some relays for other cars on ebay and reckoned that they may be interchangeable.
