Default H4 HS4 carbs

Hi, Is the H4 the same size as the HS4 but with different internals. What's the difference Are they interchangeable as far as fitting goes, choke size etc? Just want to fit a heat shield but Burlens only have them for HS4. I know that I would need to modify them to fit on PV. B16b
air side 1.5/16" engine side 1.5/8th"

The main difference between the H4 and the HS4 is the way the fuel is routed to the jet. H4 has it going from the float bowl mounting bajo through internal drillings whereas the HS4 has it coming through a nylon tube from the bottom of the float bowl. If the Burlen shield is similar the Volvo HS6 ones (see your 144) it doesn't go far enough to the rear for the B16, I'd say better to make up your own from aluminium or stainless. Ali easier to shape at the back for protection from the heat from the hot end of the exhaust manifold. About £40 from Burlen to you so you will also save a few bob.

I would do but don't have the tools etc for sheet metal working. I thought that I could alter the Burlen ones to fit. Really only need it for rear carb which sits over rear and hottest part of manifold.

BTW, is the carb size measured as the air side or engine side. ie.engine side H4. 1.1/2" Air size. 1.5/16"
