Surprising, it is, I had a look at honest John and many issues have been reported. But it answers a few questions, it the old issue of short journeys.

Mines done 50,000 miles mostly on motorways so I don't think it is related to short journeys in my case.

I'm very, very happy with mine - it's done just over 100,000 miles. It had the EGR mod done on it before I purchased it. Just had the manifold replaced as part of the recall. The car runs fine (most of the time - see below), no error codes, accelerates very well, and is smooth and economical (getting 49mpg mainly around town, got 64mpg on a trip to Whitby Goth Weekend, 3 up with luggage) I've had several friends in the car today, one that has an AWD Audi and when I booted it even he commented on how quick it was.
Since having the manifold replaced and software update, it has immediately developed an intermittent and occasional hiccup, feels a bit like a single misfire. If the EGR valve was sticking it should produce an error code, although it may be correcting itself too quickly. There again it may not be EGR related. The hiccup happened twice on Tuesday evening, the day the manifold was done. Once Friday evening. Once Sunday evening. The car has been used every day. Just seems like a coincidence it only started after the recall work. Think I may give the dealer a ring and see what they say first.

im very happy with my car apart from the odd heitation but i think that might be down to the needing the recall or using supermarket fuel for the past 7 month and needing a fuel filter changing. im more than happy with the fuel econ considering the size of it. ive got vida and so can read the codes as and when i want also got d5t5 as well to do any addons i want (satnav actiovation)
i like mine so much i have recomended to people. plus i love the auto cruise control god send on long jouneys and on my daily route to work. |

I've just had mine serviced. They checked over for any signs that it might be affected by the recall issue but said it all looked ok.
I've still got to wait for the second letter and take it back in once the fix is sorted.

Booked back in on Thursday to have it checked over. Seems too much a coincidence this hesitation started on the day the recall work was done.
Hopefully it's a simple fix for them.

If the hesitation / hiccup is at lower revs before the turbo takes over then it is similar to the one I had. It was correctly diagnosed by a dealer based on the many other cases he had as inlet valve obstruction caused by baked on EGR gunge. Given Volvo info to Honest John on 2nd August that a solution is “being developed” then your manifold replacement was not part of the recall. More likely it was blocked again by EGR gunge .....mine was too.

You make an excellent point and clearly not all cars have the mega EGR problems. Not ALL cars suffer identically when any manufacturer has to recall cars...The point is enough manifolds must have melted out of 500,000 recalled worldwide to require that action, but as you say very few people go on these forums and generally only to complain as in my case. But with few if any reports of melting manifolds on forums but dozens quoting similar EGR, blocked manifold and Inlet Valve related hesitation a far greater number clearly do have issues.

Car fixed. The hiccup at low revs, mainly when the engine was cold was nothing to do with the recent work (even though it started the day the work was carried out.) Neither is it connected to the EGR valve/cooler issues.
They replaced the EMAP pipe which was totally clogged with soot. Car seems to run a lot better, especially at lower revs. £225 for repairs.
