I reported an oily smell before it went in for the recall, which is why they had it straight in when I contacted them. It does smell oily, like a breather pipe is off.

I'm not seeing any oil on the floor though, so not dripping. I'm guessing it is coming out when the car is running only and hitting the exhaust.

When they strip it down they have to take all the injectors out and they also include replacing fuel pipes as part of the job. So I'm confident it will get sorted now

Cannot see how VOLVO would be in the least interested in your leaky gasket.
I am beginning to think that the VOLVO dealers are working in a parallel universe!
I think it was just an honest mistake in not informing me. We are all human. They have given me a price to fix it and are discounting it for the trouble caused. As long as the car gets fixed that's all I'm worried about. It's a horrible feeling when it's not right and nobody seems to know how to sort it. I was seriously contemplating trading it in and getting something else it got that bad.

The comments from the technician regarding the leaking gasket were hand written on the back of the job card - I've seen it today. The work actually carried out was printed on the front. They ran through the front part, what they did, but nobody turned it over and read the info on the back, and I also wasn't given ANY paperwork. All sorted now.

cars booked in for Thursday at my local dealers (orpington) the guy stressed to me that if its not a recall related issue then it would cost £72.50 but find that strange as I have received a recall letter. surely that would mean any check would be free ?
any thoughts ?

but have you had the second letter which would be the actual recall ?

If you have any of the symptoms in the first letter I would think volvo would pay up for that ..

Not had one yet.
My 2016 XC60 D4 77000 miles has just started hesitating around 1500rpm at slower speeds. Hoping the next fix will sort this out without me having to pay...
