18"WHEELS FOR MY 850 T5
HI thinking of buying 18" wheels for my T5.I have seen a set for sale and the advert reads 18" wheels(5X108pcd.offset et 35)does the 5 mean there is 5 wheels and is this the correct wheel pattern. Also does this mean the wheels nead a collar or do these fit straight on the hubs? Can anybody help me on what size tyres to use without any rubbing catching or scrapping going on. MANY THANKS.

RE: 18"WHEELS FOR MY 850 T5
the bolt spacing is correct but the offset if well off, u need something that has a bolt pattern of 5x108pcd and a offset of around et43.
u might be able to get away with using a spacer but why bother, unless there really cheap and go with 225/35-18 tyres any bigger will rub. u can have some s60r graphite pegasus alloys imported from the states for around £600 and then spend £400 on some tyres and these will 100% fit. i did this and am selling my old s70r 17" alloys wih tyres, which will fit yours no problem, if your interested check this out: http://www.volvoclub.org.uk/dc/dcboa...de=full&page=3 hope this helps. |

RE: 18"WHEELS FOR MY 850 T5
To answer your question about the description, the 5x108 ET 35 means:-
5 Number of studs or bolts 108 108mm PCD, or Pitch Circle Diameter which is the diameter of the circle formed by the centres of the bolt holes. ET 35 This is the back spacing measurement. It is the dimension from the centre of the wheels width. ie:- If the wheel was 8" wide, lets say 200mm, then ET0 would mean the hub mounting face is 100mm deep inside the inner rim. ET 35 means it's 135mm inside the inner rim. The higher the ET figure, the further "in" the wheels will sit. You also ask if the wheels will need a collar. This will only be applicable if the bore in the wheel centre is larger than the spigot on your hubs. Sounds to me like these wheels are made for Vauxhall vectra's etc. I dont actually know what the correct ET would be for your car, but remember it will change with the width of the rim. I hope this answers your queries Regards Nigel 855R |

RE: 18"WHEELS FOR MY 850 T5
i'm running 8x18's on my 850, & think the offset was 36mm (not guaranteed), i'm using 215/35/18 tyres with no rub (even when fully loaded up) but due to the lack of side profile gives a VERY harsh ride

RE: 18"WHEELS FOR MY 850 T5
There may be a few points to make.
Volvos are heavy cars...some aftermarket alloys may not be substantial enough to take much of a battering on potholes etc, especially really cheap ones. if you like the style, I'd go with original Volvo alloys as you know they're designed to take the weight. If you did add spacers, then you'd need longer wheel bolts..I believe Don @ Kalmar Union has a source for some. Volvos use an unusual bolt size which a lot of manufacturers don't make in the longer size. The choice/profile of tyre will massively affect ride quality. Maybe have a question in the performance section to see what people feel about their tyre profiles and handling? You wouldn't want to blow £££ and then find you don't like it. |

RE: 18"WHEELS FOR MY 850 T5
unfortunately your stuck with 3 choices on tyre size when going to 18" on a 850 or x70 series:
215/35/18 - but like duane has said there is hardly any sidewall so ride is crash bang hard!!! best choice if lowering though. 225/35/18 - this is the size of choice when fitting 18's on a 850 and even a x70, you do get some rub but easily sorted. 225/40/18 - some poeple have fitted these to x70's but cause loads of rub and are a pain on 850's due to the smaller wheel well and lack of clearence but will fit awd's fine due to the larger wheel well. there are a few of us who have had 18 pegasus alloys fitted and i think most of us have all gone with 225/35/18's on both x70's and 850's, i think. ;) |

RE: 18"WHEELS FOR MY 850 T5
Hi.
Just to add a little memo to k690bpps excellent info, for anyone who may need to know... The x70 tyre sizes that are quoted do not include the C70. C70s originally came with 17 or 18 wheels as standard (some now come with 16s, but I have no idea why Volvo would do that....) and they have 225/45-17s or 225/40-18s as standard. The reason that these tyre sizes do not rub on the C70 is the fact that the C70 has round wheel arches and they are wider than the saloon or estate cars. I think, (not sure but I have read about it somewhere) that you can get away with 245/35-18s on a C70. If anyone knows different then please say, as they are (currently) going to be my next size when my current 225s wear out. If they really aren't going to fit I would like to know. :) Cheers, Dan. |

RE: 18"WHEELS FOR MY 850 T5
i put 18's on my 850r running 225/35's, and they were a real pain in the butt. lots of rubbing, very harsh ride and 3 out 4 bent on the inner rims.these weren't cheap wheels either.
