Default Wifi Connection Issues

Hello All!!

Looking to pick some brains here for any inspiration before I start ringing my local Volvo for a warranty book in.

The last few days I have not been able to connect my S90 to my WiFi offered from my phone. It operated without issues for months now; however will not detect any wifi now.

I use android Auto with will not allow concurrent USB/Bluetooth Internet Sharing.

Previously my phone would offer a WiFi-hotspot and the car would connect automatically.

I have tried another android phone, an iPhone and parked easily within range of my home Wifi; however when ever I select 'Connect to Wifi' no connections are listed.

Tried to run a full Factory Reset, lost all my setting and map updates, but no changes.

Anyone able to shine a light on this, offer any experience or know of any top-secret reset methods?

Many thanks in advance.

Can't suggest anything other than to say that I had a similar issue with intermittent connections then none at all.

After some time with the dealer updating s/w, etc, it was eventually diagnosed as a failed comms module. Unfortunately the replacement module was itself faulty but this wasn't realised at first. Eventually another module was fitted which fixed the problem.

The dealer told me that they'd had 2 other cars with failed modules so there may have been a bad batch fitted in earlier cars.

I found telling it to "forget" the existing Wi Fi networks. Switch the car off and leave it a while, come back and re-connect to the networks you previously deleted and all worked again.

I've seen it a few times now, bit of a pain in the a$$.

I had the same problem over the weekend. Car did not connect to modem. (I use a Wifi Lte modem instead of my mobile.) My mobile could use the modem, so the problem had to be with the car. When I activated the car Hotspot my mobile could "see" the car hotspot. So it could not be a hardware problem with the car.
In the end I drove to my dealer and he simply disconnected the battery in the boot for 10sec. Now everything is working again.

That's great, thanks for the reply!.I will try that when I get home. My only concern is you saying the battery in the boot? Is this a different battery than the main engine battery? I don't have VOC.

Mine totally unable to connect to the internet both via wifi, phone tethering or build in sim. It shows Sim signal but the globe symbol is deactivated.

The battery in the engine bay is the stop/start support battery. Do not disconnect it. The main battery is in the boot. Not sure what car you have but here's a guide I posted previously for an XC90.
If you have a D5 or T6 (uncertain about a T8, see below) and you're feeling brave you can force a reboot of the car by disconnecting the battery in the boot for ~5 mins.

The battery is located behind the left side trim panel in the boot and you'll need a 10mm spanner. Ensure that the ignition is switched off and the key is away from the car. You must disconnect the negative terminal first and move it away from the battery terminal. Some have reported that this is sufficient to cause the reboot after a few mins of disconnection whilst others have said you must also remove the positive connection (perhaps this is for the T8 which also has a feed from the drive battery?). The battery connector can be easily broken by applying too much force to the wrong part of it so needs to be done carefully. Do not allow the spanner to touch the car body whilst in contact with the battery terminal. Reconnect in reverse order; i.e. negative terminal last. Give the car a couple of minutes to settle down before starting.

Personally, I'd only attempt this if really necessary otherwise wait and see if it corrects itself or take it to a dealer. There's always the chance that rebooting the whole car like this will cause an issue with some other system although I don't recall anyone reporting any other issues after doing their own reboot.

Uro, Lexman, many thanks for the help! Having disconnected the neutral holding out for a minute and reconnecting; it worked! Over the moon as saves me booking in and waiting at the dealership.

Many Thanks!!

In my car the internet connection logo (world icone) was present via wifi, blutooth or usb but the sevices and apps did not update. I changed the profile to guest and back. No change.
Than I disconected and connected the battery.
No change.
I changed the profile to guest again and the services and apps updated. I changed the profile back and all is ok.
Thanks to all.
