Had a read of the manual tonight and noted that I neither of these circled icons are showing in the status bar of the centre display, I recall they did:

volvo2.jpg

One shows that it's connected to the internet, the other that the car modem is activated.

Yes, you need to see them (see below) in the top left corner of the screen to have everything working properly.

As you can see below (from this morning), I have all the ones I should have except the INTERNET connection.

Interestingly it doesn't say connection to internet failed?

(Not sure why it's spun the picture round!)

Well, if all the settings are fine and you don't see the globe icon, then I suspect it is a faulty modem. If the car is still under warranty, bring it to the dealer for inspection.

Try tethering your phone via Bluetooth. If that works it may indicate that there's a problem with the on-board modem.

Tried that this morning. Got the message to say it was switching from car modem to BT but it still didn't show up the internet connection icon in the status bar.

Yes car is still under warranty, only just 1 year old.

I've logged a call with the lease company to get it into the dealer.

You tell the lease company? Am I meant to do that?

I just contact my local dealer.

I had a similar problem once. Disconnecting the battery for a minute or two helped. The Garage told me, that the systems in the car go only into sleep mode when you stop the car. If one of the components gets "hung up" they do not reset with restarting the car, you need to remove the battery from the system for that. (Or leave the car for 14days or so, until it goes into battery save mode and starts switching components off...)

I always have. Let them do the donkey work - ring round, book the slot, get me a courtesy car or delivery/collection.
