Oil query
Hi all,
I had my car serviced at an Independent specialist recently. I didn't drop the car off or pick it up, but a family member kindly did. I've had a look through the service paperwork tonight & noticed on the Invoice, it says "Turbo Lube 5w30 full synthetic oil". So the fully synthetic part sounds right, but not too sure about 'turbo lube'. Has anyone heard of this before? There doesn't seem to be a mention of a brand like Castrol as an example. Cheers.

Could very well be, although that oil is for a petrol engine, but mine is Diesel!
I got a diagnostic print-out also. However, with it being my first Volvo & car that I've had that you get a diagnostic report after servicing, I'm unsure what it means Does anyone know what "DTC found active" & "DTC is found not active means"?

I have a two page print-out with two columns on each. One page says "DTC Initial State" in bold letters with two columns ("Module" & "Status"), a load of module diagnostic codes which consists mainly of "DTC found not active" in the status column. However, there's two modules on this "Initial State" page that have "DTC found active" next to them (Listed below)
CEM-B111513 High mounted stop lamp control - General Electrical Failures - Circuit open (DTC is found active) ECM-P201500 Intake Manifold Runner Position Sensor/Switch Circuit Range/Perf (Bank 1) - (DTC is found active) Then the other page says "Delivery" at the top, a column with a load of modules & then another column with "No fault found". I can only presume that they've scanned the car for faults (That would relate to the "Initial state" page, then cleared them (That would relate to the "Delivery" page)? I don't know anything about diagnostics, so it looks like a load of blurb to me. Any help is appreciated.

Turbo Lube sounds like cheap, short-lifespan sh1te tbh. Wouldnt run it more than 8k or you may end up with wd40 sloshng about...
Modern oils cover both diesel and petrol, there are no designated oils anymore, they all have an additive pack that suits both (pretty much, all today's oils are what would have been considered 'diesel' oils years ago). |

I service my car every year, regardless of the mileage (I do way less than 8k at present anyway).
I thought a Volvo Specialist would have used the recommended A5/B5 spec oil to be honest, unless the brand of the oil has been abbreviated in some way on the Invoice. The oil grade used is fine, but I've never heard of it.

It may well be A5/B5, just unlikely to retain the key characteristics for the duration of an extended oci as the cheaper/more basic additives and polymers tend to deplete/break down quite readily.

5w/30 is for pre 2005 petrol engines with 12000 mile intervals

Looking at zebster's link - that is not a fully synthetic oil (synthetic blend - seems to be the american phrase.)
A quick google gave this as the only UK link in first couple of pages http://www.sarlubricants.co.uk/our-products/automotive/ this is definately semi, not fully synth and also data sheet says A3/B3 A3/B4 not A5/B5 ...
