Default The "What's up with my 460" thread!

Well, I've just bought a 460 to add to the ever growing fleet of Sweden's finest.

I've not had a chance to give it a good going over yet, but no doubt the problems will come thick and fast knowing 400 series!!

So, first up: The backwards alarm led.

When the car is locked, the led does nothing, yet when it's unlocked and the ignition turned on it flashes continuously.

I can see this getting more than a little annoying, although I was impressed by the previous owner's reckless use of a piece of tape to cover the led!! Lol

Oh, thanks to Adam, who I bought it off

For the purposes of future problems:

The car's a P reg 460 GS 1.8i, remote locking, A/C, elec sunroof, mirrors & front windows, half leather with no heated seats... End of the line special!

Thanks,

Steve

Hmmm...other than suggesting that the car's alarm LED is possessed in some way, I am not sure. Sounds a strange one. Do you have the Technical Publications DVD? If not, I'll happily have a look at mine for you and see if there are any helpful pointers.

What I can say for sure though is that taking on another 400 series when you already live with a 480 makes you a glutton for punishment! My current "fleet" runs to 3 Volvo's, but I don't think I'd be brave enough to have more than one 400 among that lot! Still, at least on a 460 there are no pop-up headlights to battle with....

the 440/460 were no where near as bad as the 480

IIRC the alarm led flashing when unlocked indicates there's a fault with the system. That would also explain why it DOESN'T light when the car's locked; the system is disabled when a fault code exists.

It's been a while since I worked on one, but I think that's the case! I guess you could test it by setting the alarm then opening the bonnet... If it doesn't go off, you'll know the alarm is out of the game!

Hi again Steve

Afraid the most I can find out is that the LED flashing when the alarm isn't supposed to be set is that it is an indicator of a fault in the system, just as TurboZutek suggested.

I can't believe I can't find more info - I'll keep looking, but that might help a bit, I guess.
