Question S80 serpentine belt

Hi folks hope this is the right forum and that someone can help.
I have a 2010 S80 2.4 D5
Around 2 years ago the Auxiliary/serpentine belt snapped and I had it fixed.
The same thing happened on dec 23rd and I managed to get it home just as the power steering cut out and everything stopped.
I contacted a local mobile mechanic to change the belt but he could not come out till today, as we were not going anywhere I was not too bothered but he came today while I was at work and he is saying that he changed the belt but the tensioner is broken and I need a new alternator as well.
While I understand the tensioner, I am concerned that the alternator would need replaced as it was fine before the belt went.
Does anyone have any experience of this?
If so any help Or advice would Be appreciated

He could mean the alternator pulley as they have a clutch in them.
If it’s failed, you’ll see the belt snatching with the engine idling.

Don’t rate the service if he’s left a broken tensioner on the car. Don’t use it until someone reputable can fix it properly.

On the D5 engine it’s very well known for a snapped aux belt to derail the cam belt and destroy the engine!

Thanks for that,
The bother to start with was finding somewhere over Christmas that could help and he was the first I could find that checked out with reasonable reviews over quite a length of time.
Hopefully no damage done and I can get it sorted, must have been lucky the last time it was a 10 minute fix.

You really must get the car to someone who knows what they are doing , ie the Dealer There were quite a few modifications to the belt system by volvo from 2008 to 2012 and there were three free upgrades .. you need to let them sort it out . The last modification was replacing the hydraulic tensioner with the old mechanical one and stating that the Aux belt must be changed every 54000 miles . The worst case is that the tensioner has been wrenched off it's mounting on the block and broken the screw mounting making the engine cylinder block useless .
