The official figures are very misleading. They must only measure the boot space up to the load cover as an 96-04 S40 is listed as having a few more litres boot space than the V40. You'll find that if you measure from the floor to the roof its much higher in a V40.

I've had my dog in the back of both a V50 and a V60 and the space she has is pitifull compared to my V40.

Thumbs down

According to the reliability index there aren't as reliable as the V40 but then they are Ford based, which could easily explain that.

V40 = 56 http://www.reliabilityindex.com/reliability/search/258
V50 = 121 http://www.reliabilityindex.com/reliability/search/259

The lower the number the better basically and the V50 has higher repair costs.

You look like you have the best V40 at the mom anyway so I personally would stick with that or let me know first if your selling it ; ).

We had a higher mileage Focus a couple of years ago it was on the back of a low loader 4 times in the first 3 months I won't ever buy a high mileage Ford again and I consider the V50 a Ford.

P.S. Check the price on wisebuyers also: http://www.wisebuyers.co.uk/ I've been surprised in the past how much high mileage reflects in the price. It might not be such a good deal.

Also the Ford diesel fuel pumps are prone to failure at those miles, and they must be coded to the car - so no easy/cheap DIY with that. I know a couple of Ford owners have had that problem. Saying that, I haven't checked if the V50/S40 use Ford pumps...

Not a fan of the Volvo V50 at all. The V40 has a bigger boot imo looks better and obviously is a hell of a lot cheaper.

Never was a fan of the S40/V50 although I wouldn't say not to a T5.

I'd stick with the V40

I quite like the look of it, especially with the 18" wheels and it looks a lot more modern too.

Its £3300, selling my car would pay the majority of that!?

Personally I think it's one of the nicest looking estates on the market (in that segment anyway). For me, only the SAAB 9-3 and Alfa 159 were alternatives when I was looking.

That comparison site is a load of rubbish, it doesnt even define engines etc, and where exactly do they get their statistics!

I really like the V40 and its ideal for what i got it for, but the newer V50 looks good for the money.

However, its been over a day with no reply from the seller!

Gaz your V40 looks superb and tbh with you I'd definitely hold onto it. If you really want a V50 then of course it's up to you.
