They get their statistics from real life warranty claims Gaz, the data comes from Warranty Direct the biggest after market warranty company in the UK.
It's not rubbish mate it is the most accurate source of information, all other surveys are based on peoples opinion which is purely subjective including JD Power and Which. This is based on real claims under warranty. You asked for information on reliability in the thread this is it, if you want to ignore it and buy the car anyway it's your prerogative but don't slander sources because it doesn't agree with what you want it to say mate. I am an academic researcher and this is the most accurate way to get data on reliability trust me. Quote:

What's more if you look at the wisebuyers valuation for that mileage the value is below what it's up for:
Retail £3195 Private £1795 and wisebuyers is based on the actual selling prices of cars http://www.wisebuyers.co.uk/index.js...e=150&x=32&y=9 But then I don't know why I bother.

I used to have for 18 months or so a 2litre petrol V40. Lovely car with lots of toys good power as well as good economy. Was in a position to get a newer car so bought a 2.0D V50 a year ago.
At first I thought I had made a huge mistake. Missed the petrol engine, the seats were really good in the V40 and it just seemed really good. Took quite a while to get used to the V50 but it is a good car. I do think the seats in the V40 are better, but what surprises me is that for a diesel car when cruising along it is so quiet! I do like it now but the V40 is a good car and the V50 is a not bad car really. Good economy from the diesel, damned relaible and not a bad boot size. Not a bad car. |

For instance, i checked what it said for my diesel Polo but it only comes under (Polo 2002-2005), i cant put in the engine mine has, not even whether its petrol or diesel. So the crap 1000cc petrol engines in a Polo that fail would put these 'statistics' down and therefore stop you buying a diesel one that may have never had a single failure.. Sorry, but in my view that site is 100% useless! Again though, thanks for your time, links and opinion. Even if i disagree, it is a forum to discuss. |

That wisebuyer guide doesn't even have my car and they gave me a bad valuation for a 9-5 aero 55 reg which is selling for £4-5k private and they listed it as £2.3k good.

Volvo V50 (2004-07) 5Dr Sportswagon 2.0D Sport (2006/55) 126k miles Private Good: £1,511 Private Average: £761 Hmm, in our dreams. Those ones on Ebay are at least £3000 over priced according to that. |

I hate these sites, along with the old CAP valuation books that we used to get at work. They are SO unrealistic!! |

Well £2.3K is the avergae price it would sell for privately. It's based on actual sales prices. Yours is on their but its the Rev 00 as in revision 2000 i.e. what we call a phase 2. So yours would be the 4dr saloon 1.8 122 SE Rev 00.
I have been using this for years, dealers hate it because it's the only free valuation one that allows you toput the mileage in. Parkers is always overpriced, remember this is the price cars sell for not what they are up for. This car is the only car I have ever paid the screen price on and thats because it was well below the wisebuyers valuation already.
