As someone also new to this forum and after a car (dont worry wont nick yours, too far away), it woud be intersting to see what you and I end up with.
Am planning on seeing this one -
http://www.chipperfieldcars.co.uk/us...01231480608437

cant get down there until late next week, so if you are passing Kings Langley, pop in for me please!
Oh and good luck with the searching.
Found the car you are looking at....looks good, but i really do not want to buy a high miler, my theory is to buy a car with around 50k on drive for 3 years and then sell with 80K on.

Yes, well you have a point, it depends what you call a high miler these days, there are some that are of the opinion that at 100,000 its only just been run in!
However its the other things that have been highlighted in my Honest John thread that are more likely to go wrong the higher the mileage.

I am still unsure of what car to get...Mondeo Titanium x ( new shape), mazda 6 sport 2.2, or the volvo...i think the Volvo as i want the 185Bhp power, but the boot is a stupid shape and the lights on the rear are gay. I would love the V70 but they are too expensive in comparison.

The 2 good ones i have spotted are here

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2005-55-VO...item3ccc433a85

But there is also this private sale on piston heads - only 27K!

http://classifieds.pistonheads.com/c...rt-2005/887822

I will go and look at the one in Hitchin but will go with the intention of haggling as there are loads to choose from!
Both look good to me, as does the red Volvo in Lea Valley above.
Trouble with that one is, he says he is a dealer but clearly is not, or at least he does not appear to have a showroom or forecourt.
Would be wary of that one, its the type of deal where you have to meet up at some roadside cafe or something.

The Pistonheads one though, 27,000 miles in 7 years? You could argue that this is too low!

I think there is the arguement that a low miler wil be clogged up ( DPF ), i agree that the engine will be just run in at 100k, but the rest of the car will be wearing out - ARB's, suspension arms, discs, squeaks, rattles, clutch, etc.

So i would prefer to go for low mileage example.

Cool, I am still on the hunt for the right one...

Been looking at A6 2.7 tdi but I think they are outside my budget and will cost me a lot to maintain!

So I think I will stick with Volvos!

Question...what is the general opinion of gearbox...manual vs auto? Do the Dmf and clutch give in on the manual?

I'm about to sell my S60 D5, its a 55 plate 2006 MY, geartronic and 185BHP. SE spec with optional winter pack, xenon lights. 127K full history since new. Realistically priced at £3500. I'll try and get a proper ad and some pics on this week sometime. If you're intertested, please PM me.

Steve
