I know most people are mentioning petrols on this thread, but the V40 diesels are a popular choice so I thought Id add my 2 cents...
This time last year I bought my first V40 diesel, 2004 04 plate in black, sport 1.9 d with 180k. Advertised at 1900, part ex'd a 02 Mondeo tdci Ghia X with dodgey injectors and paid 800 extra. I got it less than 12 hours after it went online for sale. It turned out to have a blown turbo but apart from that was pretty sweet. 6 months later a Jag driver decides he doesnt like the look of it and gives me a head on, writing the car off. Insurance thought it wasnt worth a lot because of the "high mileage" I argued and got 1900 back. Wish Id bought it back now. 1 month ago or less I got my 2nd V40 diesel, 2004 53 plate in silver sport 1.9 d with 105k. Advertised at 2500, got the seller down to 1900 with 6 months tax, but a number of things to be done on it. 5 previous owners. Im really happy with it. I had seen at least 4 others beforehand, cheapest being 1850 with 145k, non sport with blown turbo and no solid service history. Its still for sale now. Also saw (on the same day I bought mine) a silver V40 with 125k, sport in fairly good condition but with what appeard to be a nasty oil leak. Owner said he replaced the turbo and claimed it had 2 year warranty, through an ebay sale.. hmm. Advertised at 2300ish, Id be surprised if he sold it for more than 2100 but its gone now. I was prepared to buy one for up to 3250 if I had to provided it had EVERYTHING I wanted, but luckily I didnt spend that much, yet. |

Thanks Samwell - you did well to knock £600 off the price of your second one, I'm guessing the things that needed doing were things you spotted when viewing the car that gave you a reason to make a lower offer?
You've knocked more than 25% off the advertised price.. |

Yeah the map was based around an MTE stage 2 from Kalmar Union and tweaked mildly by Ashok. The result was very impressive when on the dyno and even more on the road. The hardware is 100% stock. Currently you can only have a custom map for a phase 2. I will have further mods in future and will post any progression up on here. Just have other priorities atm so having to take a break from tuning T4s. My last one cost me a fortune tuning it and i never got it to its true potential due to the software limits on the phase 1.

I bought my 2002 (51) S40 a couple of weeks ago, it's a 1.9 diesel with 110K on the clock, oil and filters changed a couple of hundred miles ago by a Volvo specialist. The car was advertised with a whole list of faults that the owners garage had advised needed doing for the MOT, however, when I took it to my local MOT place (who only do tests, and don't charge if you fail) they failed it on 1 fractured rear coil spring and rear pads, with rear discs as an advisory. I paid 500 for the car, £250 for the MOT and repairs, £50 for an alarm locking module with 2 matching fobs, and and about £10 for a new electric aerial mast.
