Lets start here with the HU605 pin-out diagram - little use on its own but its a start...

Just took these pics and trimmed them down - shows green plug with wiring colours, from both sides. Car is Phase 2 2001 V40 so should be electrically identical to yours. Pics are hosted at Dropbox, if you cant see them let me know and I will attach them here instead.

Just spent a few minutes with the wiring diagram to work out what the various connectors on the green plug actually do.
RichT4's guide linked to above by MJB73 shows the bare minimum needed to get an aftermarket head unit working (+VE, -VE, Ignition Switched +VE). For completeness here's the rest Unused - MOBILE PHONE MUTE (Connect to -VE to silence radio) Red/Black - dimming control Green - SPEED SIGNAL FROM ECU (Used in diagnostic mode to check the speedo accuracy, and in advanced-user mode for speed-adjusted volume control) Yellow/White - dimming control Brown/White - IGNITION SWITCHED POSITIVE Thick Orange - BATTERY POSITIVE non clip side End - Black. NEGATIVE Unused unused Red - ANTENNA POWER Black - NEGATIVE/ GROUND Unused

I thought that would have been to turn the volume up, speed sensitive ie radio gets louder as you go faster. My Mams megan scenic has it!

If you press the right series of buttons on a HU605 it turns into a secondary speedometer. I cant remember what the sequence is, but its in the manual.

Druid was also right, but I didnt know it
It is difficult to link directly to posts on the ThirtyFortyFifty forum due to a problem with the configuration of their web server. This info was posted there in 2010 The display of speed is available as one of the options from the AUM submenu using the Source selector button apparently. You can have fun trying to find it if you like - but the exact info was posted on this forum sometime in the last 2 years Following post doesnt include how to do it, but does give clues. Quote:
