All my stuff now ready for front rebuild. I might need to wait as my mate also has a hydraulic spring compresser which is easier and safer !!!

If you use a long M12 nut and bolt and a couple of sockets the right size Mark, you can easily make a bush puller to pull the new bushes in. If you slightly chamfer the leading edge of the bush and a drop of oil on the metal shell to helpit slip in easily, you'll be surprised how easily they can be pulled in.

The vice just needs to hold the item still while you wind the bush in. Use some wood, rags, plastic sheet or similar to prevent marking the paintwork on the parts. I've done wheel bearings quite easily that way.

Weekdays: working as normal, except at home, not at the office.

But in my free time... finally got round to investigating the damage to my 740 from the timing belt snapping. So far, I've removed the cylinder head and found two bent exhaust valves, so the damage wasn't too bad. However, I also found some signs of bore wear in all four cylinders, and am contemplating what needs to be done about that. It's done over 200k miles, so a bit of wear is to be expected, I guess.

Nice one Mark, they look mint!

I've fitted rear beam bushes before to my old mk2 golf as Dave has said above, it can be incredibly easy.

@StephenD what engine code is your 740? Sorry to hear it's been damaged, hopefully not too much to get it going again.

It’s not so much the hours but the level of risk to people’s families. As I live alone I’m fortunate not to be in this position. However, those with vulnerable family members at home who have to continue working in hospitals are under unbelievable stress. It’s not just the obvious heightened risk of catching Covid-19 and the potential impact of taking it back to your own household. Add to this daily briefings on how serious the situation is going to get and working flat-out to prepare for scenarios like nothing ever seen before in careers which often span decades.

It's useful to be reminded of this. Here I am, frustrated that I can't drive 20 mins to my unit to work on cars whilst I have endless free time. Reality check; there's people who would much rather be in my shoes!

That's the one bit i don't get about this lockdown. While exercising my hound the other day, i was talking to another dog walker and he was saying he's not allowed to go fishing. Fishing has never been my bag so i've never really understood sitting by yourself on a river bank hoping a fish will come along and take the bait on the line but it's a fairly solitary hobby unless you go as group.

In other words, if there's only you there and you're at least 2m away from anyone else and don't come into contact with anyone else on the journey there and back, how is that going to spread the lurgy any further?

You'd be ok if you cycled there.

True, I would certainly get fit, it's about 20 miles!
Unfortunately I have to go through two shared entrances before getting to my unit, and it has a shared bathroom
