See latest posting from Evgeny in this thread for a module which disables stop/start function as well as enabling you to remotely close the tailgate on a V70 or XC70. It just plugs into the OBD2 socket and needs no installation:

Should enhance your car!

My battery in V70 MY 2014 manual is clinging on, with some top up charges.

I've been reading around, full mystery surrounds what the extra small battery does....

What I have discovered is that different batteries are used for manual and automatic cars with stop start.

Manual Volvo cars have EFB batteries for the main battery, which I had never heard of before, and automatics have AGM batteries. All of the mysterious small batteries are AGM type.

The EFB batteries are Enhanced Flooded Batteries designed for use with Stop/Start systems. They are a less expensive solution than the AGM batteries, but are build to withstand the extra load of Stop/Start systems. A sort of halfway solution avoiding the cost of AGM batteries. I've had an AGM battery on my weekend car before now, more expensive and did not survive the infrequent usage that it should have. Not totally relevant to my V70 as it doesn't stay in the garage for 3+ months.

Most parts supply sites will take you straight to the AGM batteries if you put the car type in, they do not consider the gearbox type. You can find them if you search for the correct size (096 in my case) with EFB.

Hopefully this is of use and interest to others.

Default Low battery message

My V70 did this at 8 years old I just fitted a new battery to solve on the reckoning batteries have a finite lifespan. The likelihood of a new battery solving your message is reinforced by the fact battery performance reduces at lower temperatures and we are now in winter.
