OEM Parts Quality
I know this subject has been done to death. However, here’s another example.
OEM cat-back exhaust kit sourced via Volvo in the UK. Made in France, a country no doubt renowned for its engineering prowess. Compared with a NOS rear silencer made in Sweden. The way the middle pipe has been “formed” (final picture) reminds me of a cheap part my father had fitted to my first Volvo by a local exhaust centre; and which I fairly quickly replaced with a proper genuine Volvo one. Picture 2 is the reason I was inspired to write. Note that the recent OEM silencer (top) doesn’t even have a round cross-section to its inlet. The supplied pipe won’t fit in there. Now, OK, I have got a tool for correcting this. But it should not be necessary to reform parts of an OEM system prior to fitting. |

Volvo probably don't make the exhausts now. Probably euroflow or Klarius in a Volvo box.
Like the Volvo water pumps used to be good now buy SKF. My exhaust on my 940 may go stainless one day with rear box delete? James |

Yes,James, stainless would be my choice now that the OEM ones have been "exhausted"-excuse the pun.Whats the benefit of removing the rear box? Surely a 3"stainless custom made would be better??

Fair enough.
When I replaced mine a couple of years ago I replaced it with a genuine Volvo one.Easy to fit, etc. However, I cut off the very last part of the tailpipe to that it faces downwards. A simple but effective mod which (in my opinion) looks better from the rear. |
