Default MPG on an 05 auto

Was on holidays all last week, covered almost 1000miles, with the bulk of that travelling to and from Devon, quite a lot of motorway miles at 70mph, fully laden, roofbox and 4kids. Average mpg reads 37 but I worked it out to be around 32. Does that sound about right?

It was super on the trip though, couldn't have done without the aircon, temp actually read 39 on Sunday!!

My average has been consistently between 32-34 until this hot weather where it has dropped, probably due to the a/c working hard.

That's way better than I get from my 2008 D5 manual - but it's the 185 / Euro 4 engine which is known to be rather thirsty.
Mine averages around 27 displayed (and i'm scared to calculate the real figure), however does quite a few short journeys and longer ones often have a caravan behind and bikes on top!

That’s cracking mpg your getting there 🤷🏼*♂️.

My 07 185 D5 auto does 23mpg on a long stretch. 20mpg round about the doors.
Just put a new swirl flap assembly in and cleaned all the carbon out so hopefully see 1-2mpg on a long drive now.

Thats terrible.
I've got an 07 185 auto too, I regularly drive from north England to Aberdeen and back, sits at 70mph on cruise control, computer averages 36mpg, I work it out at 33.

I have a 60 plate D5 Polestar and get 31mpg on my 60 mile round trip to work and when we went to France last month with 5 people, 2 dogs and a roof box, cruise set at 85 and we were getting 28mpg.

I am getting a claimed 28mpg but in reality I think more like 25, in the past with a crocked engine I was getting better mileage especially if I tried really hard, the only part of my original engine not touched are the injectors.... ( of course I also required a gallon of oil for 500kms)

Mine is the 2006 185 tiptronic, with 300k kms. (new turbo, Rings, etc etc) I have a perfectly good set of injectors from a 163 from s60. would they even work in the xc90.... is it that I would get lower performance or just a no go.....75 euros to dublin a bit of spinning around and back is a bit too expensive for my taste, (especially as I must goa again tomorrow) I am pretty sure at its best I got there and back for €50... certainly I was previously able to average 7.5 to 8 L per 100kms

I've got a T6, which usually manages 20mpg in normal use. Took it to Germany via Dunkirk in May and managed 25mpg over 1,400 miles.

I've noticed a big difference is obviously how heavy your right foot is, I usually let it gradually get up to 70 and keep it on instantaneous MPG to keep an eye on things. Also usually have 4 kids in it when going any distance so drive more carefully!
Cruise control seems to make it a bit harder on fuel. I'd do a 120mile round trip visiting family every couple of months and noticed that it actually gave slightly better (42mpg) at 70mph than at 60mph (40mph).

Wife uses it for her daily commute..........I just don't look near the mpg for that lol but I'm guessing very low 20s, I just reset before I go on a journey.
