Default Replacing Heater Hoses

Hi
I have a leaking heater hose on my 240 GLT B230F. Is it necessary to remove the inlet manifold to get to the hose connection beneath it? Advice on other aspects of the job would be very welcome.
cheers.

No, but you need nimble fingers. It also depends what other pipework there is there - flame trap etc. It might help to move some of this, likewise unplug connectors and sensors..
Check that the metal double pipe thingy that goes through the bulkhead is not corroded. It can be just on the point of collapse, and the strain of getting the hoses off may be the final straw.

While you have the access clear it would be a good idea to take off the black box oil separator and clean or replace it. It is another of those touch and go manifold off ? jobs, made easier by having hoses etc out of the way.

An additional point - I usually cut the pipe off with a Stanle knife with a new blade and split the remains down the length. This solves the problem of them being welded onto the metal pipes by years of heat and eliminates risk of damaging the metal pipes.

Red face leaking heater hose.

Where is it leaking from ? I would recommend replacing both heater hoses at the same time, following Mike's tip about using knife to cut off old hoses. Be aware of a possible source of leaks, the heater hose can wear through by being in contact with the dipstick tube ! Try putting a piece of old hose round the new one and tie wrapping it on at this point I was amazed at the reasonable price for genuine Volvo anti-freeze / coolant from a main dealer, with VOC discount compared well with other places.

This had happened to mine. I cut the hose in two where the crack was and inserted a piece of metal tube (cut from an old tent frame I found in my grandparents garage, but could probably use the bends you get for plumbing) and fastened it with hoseclips. No problems since and much easier than replacing the whole hose

Good luck and hope you get it sorted!
