I did a bit of a write up on this some time back with pictures,
a search should find it:~

Quite straight forward- briefly remove the mirror and separate into parts,
The castings can begin to shred the paint and flake.
Clean away the original coating-sanding/wire brush.

Etch prime all areas (always use etch primer on Aluminium) a normal primer can now be used on top of this if you wish.
Top coat in a satin black.

All the above can be purchased via your local car paint factors or online.
Hope it helps.
Bob.

Thanks for the info BOB,,,i have removed and etched and primed it waiting.to paint now...!!!! Unfortunately my other Volvo the b200f estate needs a new head gasket which all parts are ordered from Brookhouse... My mechanic friend said i can do it myself with his instructions..im lucky to live on a farm where the estate is only 80 meters away in a work shop where i can go in and take my time doing it...but i have a question about whether i can just undo the inlet/fuel rail etc and pull away from the head...??? i have done the shims in the past and timing belt so I'm quite confident in doing it....any info i would be grateful for regards Adrian...!!
