Sticky Gear Shift
Hi there, new to the forum, so hope it works !
I recently bought a 480S The gear shift is stiff at times and I want to change the gearbox oil Got the Haines manual and know how to drain it, but the only filler point I can locate is a black plug/cap ontop of the gearbox Lift the lid and its a very small hole for putting oil in and will drain in very slowly I guess? The whole thing does lift out as well, leaving an impossible hole to pour oil into Anyone done this on a 480 and what oil is best to use please? Many thanks, Nick |

The pipe you are talking about is just a vent. The filler is on teh fron of the box, its sometimes hard to undo with the engine in the car. Use a funnel with a length of hose rammed on the end. Only use the oil you get from volvo I would recommend doing the gearbox linkage bushes, these will make you have to slam the stick about to get gears. Regards, Chris.
