Gearbox 'stiff'
Dear All,
Have just come back from two week holiday and found that when I shift gear on my 440 1.8i manual there is some resistance- like there's cotton wool packed around base of gearstick. It's not grinding or making unusual noises. Normally the gearstick wobbles freely in neutral, but it no longer feels loose like it used to. Could it need transmission oil? In owner's handbook it says its factory filled for life, and only needs topping up in case of a leak. I can see where gearbox oil should go, but can't work out how to get the cap off, and even then how would I know if it was low on transmission oil? Any advice much appreciated Cheers, Ben. |

I think there's a window in the side of the gearbox for checking the level, although I couldn't say where exactly. I'm sure Haynes recommends changing the gearbox oil in its service schedule (not sure how often). I don't know that this is definitely your problem though.
