Default JFU4 Distributor

I'm ordering new points, rotor and cap from IPD and wanted to make sure I was getting the right one for my distributor.

The markings on mine are JFU4 and 0 231 170 086.

Car is a US market 67 122S with a B18D.

I searched and found another thread suggesting this may not be the correct distributor for the B18 (perhaps for a B20 or not a Volvo at all).

I also have a spare engine here that is an earlier B18D with a 0 231 153 003 JFR4 distributor. Should I just use that one instead? Are they interchangeable?

Hi,

thats definitely not the right distributor for the B18. Rather use the spare 0 231 153 003 JFR4. That one is without vacuum advance, and was used on the B18D2 with 86hp, the B18D3 with 90hp, and the B18B's with 96, 100 und 103hp (hp in DIN ;-) )

Use this list to check for the matching distributor for your engine. If the engine is stock the number to look for is the stamped number on the machined pad adjacent and to the right of the 4968 that is cast into the block just above the fuel pump. This number is specific to the type of car, 120/1800, and its state of tune, so useful to find what it first started out in if it's a swapped in engine. Yes, differences are usually minor but best to fit the matching unit. Fully mechanical ones, with no vacuum, are generally the best but are a bit of a compromise at idle.
