arcturus;
I'm following your restoration thread with interest. I'm also quite relieved that those inverter modules you found and added based on my suggestions did not contribute to the fire...I don't see them in the reso pictures, but if you are adding these into the wiring again, please contact me directly so that I can review their supply and fusing, to assure everything is proper and safe...the very last thing we want is that these module cause a problem in the future! Thanks. Only fitting one for windscreen wash. Tomtom works fine on 6 volts with ubs adapter. My only issue is which type of connector to use from power to convertor.I think that I crimped on insulated spade connectors last time round. A bit difficult here in the sticks trying to buy hardware. I end up paying $15 shipping for a 10 cent part!

Welcome home! What a transformation, from that to this. Will have the PV back on the road by the weekend.

...a commendable recovery! What steps have you taken to prevent future fuel leakage? Cheers |

Had carb' rebuilt with all new glands. The heat shield should prevent any future seepage from falling on the manifold. I 99% believe that seepage from the carb', soaking on the Insulation on the manifold and igniting was the cause, not electrical.

My overweight neighbour is always going on about her glands being the trouble. I reckon if I tell her dodgy glands can cause a fire she'll think she's hot stuff and I'll end up in hot water again... (hash tag joke as the yutes might say)

OK...remember leaking gas alone is certainly not good, and leaking onto the hot manifold is worse as it evaporates it quickly making highly ignitable fumes, but manifold is not hot enough to ignite these...it still needs a (spark) source of ignition (likely the Generator brushes)...so preventing leaks is your first line of defense, second is keeping it off manifold with a heat-shieled (also good got the carbs)...so it sounds like you have it covered well. From the looks of this rear carb' I think that It would be a fair assumption that the fire started just below it. Parts lower than this were only smoke damages.
